I use to have a 95 with the transmission perform, I think it changes the shift points a little.

IDK if this has any revalence but my truck (2001 V6 Tacoma 4X4) has the same sort of button. Raises my shift points to higher RPM's for max power when towing/racing etc etc. Hope this helps.

the performance mode does not lock the converter with any tps % over 25, whereas the normal mode can lock it up till 40% tps.

I have the button. It holds each shift longer with less throttle than normal. Also downshifts with less throttle. It doesn't seem to increase the shift points, but I saw in my tuning program it has it's own tables. So you could be shifting at 5,700 and press the button and shift at 6,000 if you tune it that way.

Thumbs up

I have the button as well.I find it to be pretty useful when messing around from a roll. Not sure if it actually makes the car faster from a roll, but certainly feels like it.Makes the car down and upshift more firmly and generally feels more agile when at like a quarter throttle or more.

I also believe it helps with traction too.One time I hit it from a dig with it off, spun like usual. Then with the button on,didn't spin so bad,if at all.Maybe it locks the rear end too?

We don't have electronic/vacuum locking posi. What it COULD have done was introduce ASR (traction control) to the mix. The less wheel spin the greater performance in theory. That kind of only applies to people who mash the pedal instead of ease into it to prevent it on their own. When fooling around, I mash the pedal just to roach the tires. If I race, I make sure to get the car going a tad and then punch it. The time delay sounds long but it's quite short. Like 75% throttle, then WOT.

I had that on my old '95. Funny thing was everytime I would press the button at the track I would run slower.

IIRC Z28's are setup as if the "performance" button is always on.

You have the 2.73 Rear-End..us with the original 3.23 Rear Cars didn't have that Rubber thing. 2.73's are/were in your Car from the Factory.

I can tell a huge difference when lead footing it around town with the button pushed in. It down shifts with less pedal and holds gears to a higher rpm before advancing...almost feels smoother too.
