so this was a new one my car pulled... i was driving my car.. went to block buster, parked at my g/f's house, dropped off a movie... got back in my car about 10 min later.. go to start it nothing.. power, but it wouldnt crank, i like ****, maybe starter... turned the key to off poistion, and the security light was on.. tried starting again, all power but no cranking.... took key out, security light was still on.. hmmm... unlock doors, lock them again, danm light still on and car wont start still...at this point idk what to do.. i get out of the car, lock the doors with the key, unlock them with key... danm light still on...i finally i get back in car and the light turned off and car started... any ideas on wtf happened? i dont have a remoter for the car or anything, just keys.. and this has never happened before.. so what is it, can i disable it, and if it happens again, what should i do?

 

I stuck my key in upside down one time and it freaked out. Probably the security thing like mine dide.

if the key gets old/ worn out its been known to happen. u can disable the vats, or u can have a new key made, which is a dealer part aka a little pricey for just a key, but if u disable the vats u can just have a regular key made

 

the resistor on ur key is prolly worn out bud. Go to a dealer and they should be able to test your key for you.

 

and i dont think you can disable the vats because it is intertwinded in the computer and everything. Easier and less of a hassle to pay the 20-25 bucks for the new key.

Hmmm $30 key or $100 tune. Unless you just really want a tune then just buying the key with vats will be faster and cheaper....But your car will run better after the tune...little bit better. Just save the tune money for when its time to really make your car faster, cam swap

 

put the key in and turn to on possition for about 15 minutes or untill the light goes out should fix it.

 

interesting that this has came up because my security light has also came on, and nothing changed, car starts and everything is normal. i have gotten a new key, and the light still hasnt gone out. Im not sure what might fix this, i have been driving with this light on for months. dont want to highjack the thread, but it does pertain to the thread a little.

 

have you tried unplugging the battery for a few minutes to see if it would get rid of the problem once reconnected? Its a shot in the dark but, costs nothing except a few minutes to reset your radio presets. hehe...
