Gears? I'm pretty sure that my T/A has 2.73's in it, well at least thats what I have been told. I was just wondering if I should go to maybe 3.73's and how much of a P.I.T.A. is it to change them.

ya i got quoted for install from my neighbor that owns a tranny shop $200 for install, not including the price of the gears and shims and all that other stuff that would prob. need freshened up in there

That's not a bad price. Another alternative would be to keep you eyes out for another rear end that already has 3.73 gears. I bought one a while back for only $250. Doing this would also allow you to have your old rear for a spare.

I had a dealer quote me $400 for gears and $600 for the install about 9 years ago.
A chain shop wanted $1100 for the install alone.
I private shop did it for $225 and I picked up the gears for $200 or so at the time from Jegs I think.
As long as they shim it right, you'll be golden.
If not, it will howl. If you catch it, you can fix it without a problem. If you let it wear in, you're SOL

With your setup you need to keep in mind that your 2.73s won't allow you to buy normal 3.37s, you'll need to buy Series 2 carrier gears, or go and buy a Series 3 carrier (which 3.23+ use) and then buy Series 3 gears.

I would have them installed professionally. 3.73 would be a good choice of gear. If you look in the glove box there will be a GU code. I forget the 2 codes numbers. I think GU2 2.73 GU5 3.23. I could be wrong.

GU2 is 2.73s, GU5 is 3.23 and GU6 is 3.42s
I own a speed shop in Oklahoma and I install gears on a regular basis and you would definitely want to have them professionally installed. I also stock many different kinds of gears weather you have a 2 or 3 series carrier I can sell you just about any ratio from 3.23 to 4.56 for around 145.00 a set plus shipping, and that goes for everyone.
