Default im stumped

my friend owns a '96 formula ws6 [1 of 139] and we are trying to figure out how his car is so damn fast.

we went to a dealership, got a test drive of a cammed 6spd ls1 trans am and he is a pretty good driver but his car was a fender behhind and we had the jump. same result in 2nd race. the test driven ls1's previous owner said it made 360rwhp. drivers were probably equal.

his mods [im 99% sure these are his only mods] are 4.10 gears, borla cat-back, electric water pump, and a good clutch. he is also on p295 goodyears but thats all i know. never been on a dyno but a couple of people are suspecting a factory freak. i know, i know, everyone thinks they dont exist but these are his ONLY mods

i know the gears help alot, and i dont claim to be a car whiz, but im by far no noob, but a couple of my friends, ppl with more knowledge than me, dont get how his car can keep up & beat the cars he does.

anyone got an explination? are the gears making that much of a difference?
[and dont be ignorant if i am asing a stupid question please. ive only ahd good experiences here on ls1tech.]

there were a few LT1's touched by the hand of jesus, not as good as god touching the LS1, but almost the same, so dont underestimate all of them lol

maybe its just he knows his car very well and knows how to drive it to it's potential.

well with that waterpump and exhaust he would only get between 20-30 extra horses at most. It may have a more aggressive cam or heads reworked. But for 360HP of a LT a little (not a lot) work needs to be done.

Run it down the 1/4 and then see. If it runs low-mid 13s with those mods, it's def a factory freak

Could be tuned though, which would help wake up the car.

my 96 B4C A4 camaro ran 13.8s at 101mph with just an SLP CAI and SLP shift improvement module... not sure if it was a freak but it ran strong for the 136k it had on it. I wish my 94 ran half as good as the 96 did. They both used to run dead nuts even then when the 94 blew a trans its never been the same. Still trying to get the 94 back to where it should.

Yes, for what ever reason there are what I also call FFC, Factory Freak Cars, I have tuned numerous LT & LS1's and have seen this, cannot explain, Looser clearances, little more compression? don't know. But as an example on one of my customer LT1, it was bone stock sans headers, very small stall and my street tune, Ran 13.00 flat and with a 100 shot ran 12.02-12.06 all day long. I had an 02 LS1 with ONLY a Z06 cam which is not far from stock, Made 385 RWHP!!!! No headers, No after market Muffler, Nothing....
