i had pretty much the same thing happen to me too. But it would break up anywhere. Really pissed me off and i still don't know if it will run properly cause it is stored in my garage right now. But anyway, check your fuel pressure, replace opti if it's on waranty why not. When your car is idleing tap vigourusly on the top of the ecu. If it stumbles or starts bogging down that is your problem. That is straight from Haynes. That is what happened to me, now i just have to put the new ecu in and see how mine runs. Good luck.

Its driving me crazy, we was out on the town last night and it was spitting and sputter at 4500-5000rpms when I was "IN IT" and then after we stopped I went to race a friend and it ran GREAT!... raced a M6 LS1 Trans am by the way, lost by a car and I spun, he hooked!... anyways
On the way home, it starts doing it again.... Dont know what to do...

I had the same problem and it ended up being a plug wire arcing off of the header. Check that out. A $2 pack of zip ties will fix it for you.

might as well join in on an existing thread... i was having the same issue as well, a break up at high rpm.

Take a look at my dyno graph and you can see how it gets fuzzy above 4k

Im actually in the middle of an Opti & water pump job right now, and while im at it i was going to change the plugs and wires... in addition, and now after reading this thread i was contemplating on a new coil too.. thoughts?

Im gonna put my 2 cents in here and say your spark plugs may be the cause of this. if the motor is running almost at idle speed "cruising" your plugs may be prone to loading up, then it will pop and spudder once you drop the hammer since it is trying to clear out all of that unburnt gas. I know that was my problem, i was using NGK TR55's and you could hear my car drop cylinders from the quality of the idle because the plugs literally fouled out like that. not saying its the cure, just throwing out some ideas. I have bigger fuel injectors also and am working on a shitty mail tune, everyones car is different but possibly something to think of

sounds exactly like my problem at 3000rpm.
everything is fine untill you hit that, then it sputters, fuel cuts and dies.
soon as you start it back up.. everything is fine untill the next time.

it also takes longer to start then other LT's i have seen. which to means sounds like Ignition issue. However opti's usually just go out, everything works fine except for start-up, and the 3000 RPM die-out.
