Yeah after listening to some sound clips and looking at some dyno results im pretty dead set on the 503 now, i will deffinatly be doing the comp magnum 1.6 rrs, the crane springs, and a new timing chain, anything else im going to need outside of the obvious (retainers, shims, gaskets etc) And if i have money left over i might as well put a new opti in.
Crane 104227. Its a pretty nice cam with a strong low and mid range. Works real well for the b-bodies because of its nice torque, it helps them get off the line quicker which is why its called an RV cam. Sounds fairly stock which can either be good or bad thing depending on preference and a nice choice for someone wanting to shift around stock rpm levels. I have some more info on it in my cam sticky at the top of the forum.
Thats not really comparing apples to oranges. The cc503 will make more peak power but the 227 will have more low end power/torque. So it depends what you want out of it, its not all about peak numbers dont forget. Both are great with stock heads and both have great drivability.
Gm846 is worth looking into, i ran it with stock heads and lt4 springs for a while, i was limited to 1.5 rr's because i was worried about over flexing the lt4 springs. was a nice combo, and emitted a sweet sound

A custom grind could get you there. Most off the shelf stuff is put on excessively wide LSA which reduces overlap and tames idle with substantial midrange torque loses. Get something say HOT camish but on a tighter LSA and I think you will get what you are asking for. Friend has something much like this and it works well.
