Default lt1 or ls1 question

I have recently bought an lt1 formula, and was wondering, is it really worth putting a lot of money in these cars, from a pure performance standpoint, or should I put the money I could use on the parts torwards an ls1 car instead? again, im looking at it from a pure performance/ value standpoint.

if you ask in here everyone will say do the LT1 if you ask in the LS1 area everyone will say do the LS1. that being said a good head and cam package on a bolt on LT1 will get you in the 11s no problem. as long as you have a good tune just like any car.

since you got the formula just stick with it. its always great when the LT1 beats the "almighty" LS1.

from what iv seen, lt1s are only 1 step behind. put intake and exhaust on ur car u should be right behind stock ls1s. stock for stock 1/8th miles are the same but ls1 start pulling away after that. the parts are cheaper for lt1s.

the ls1 is the superior platform, that being said, lt1 arent no slouch. nothing like the look on a ls1 owners face when you keep up or blow there doors off. value wise, lt1 parts are slightly cheaper and the car should be cheaper leaving you more money for mods. i guess i just got a thing for LT1's

From my understanding the parts are about the same for cost, but more aftermarket for LS1s. LT1 cars are usually QUITE cheaper, as Bill said. I got mine for 3,800.

Do what makes you happy, that's what I do.

If you want an LS1, just swap in one. Or do like Merv and build your own combo motor that's based on LS design. He built a pretty cheap, but quite powerful, LSx motor.

headers and stuff like that are a little cheaper than ls1 setups but like anything you gotta pay to play. other than the ls1 motor, and slightly bigger brakes, the lt1 has pretty much everything the ls1 car does. i got my lt1 for 3.5 grand 2 years ago, my ls1 was 9.5, that 6 grand difference could of more than made up what the lt1 lacks in power

yeah, i see what you mean, the thing is im only 18 and gonna be working a lot this summer before i go to school. I would like to keep a car for awhile if im gonna do stuff to it, so im stuck inbetweeen saving and putting my money into the lt1, or saving for an ls1 and then eventually doing stuff to that car. Im just not sure which is the right route to go.

its hard to say, youll be the one that has to live with the end result so take whatever i say with a grain of salt. of course this is LS1tech so you can guess what most people will say. at 18 and going into college, id stick with what you got. now it all depends on the condition of your car but generally youll find a high mileage LS1 costs the same or similiar to a lower mileage LT1.
not that mileage is the only factory in reliability but it should be taken into consideration. dont fix whats not broke, if the LT1 is filling your needs for now, no reason to dump it. just my humble opinion of course. the ls1 will probably have higher insurance on it being a newer car which means more money after the sale. just another little thing to think about.

I own both an LS1 and an LT1. I say stay with your LT1. I love LSx's, but if you have an LT1, there is nothing to be ashamed of. I love blowing the doors off of LS1's with my LT1 all day.
