Default Well, my waterpump went

Should I have the mechanic replace the opti while he's in there or should I wait until that goes and do it separately?

I appreciate it, but I need my car done today. I wanted to go with a Meziere electric water pump, but I don't really have access to one right now and I need this done ASAP.

I would suggest a fresh cap and rotor on the opti. ALL distributor caps and rotors are wear items and on the LT1 are neglected because the ignorant have everyone convinced the opti is garbage and you have to replace the whole thing.

$900 for everything total. This sucks. I was really hoping to go with an electric water pump. Could a worn opti and water pump sap power? I know I won't gain power back by replacing the worn parts like I would have had I gotten an electric pump, but will I feel a difference at all? Will my car's idle at least smooth out? Thanks guys.

its like doing a tune up so it should make everything run better assuming there is nothing else wrong with your car. Do the work yourself. it takes a day for a beginner to do this kind of work. not difficult at all.

Where are you going??

I would spend $50 on a remanufactured WP, $150 max on a new cap and rotor, get wild and crazy and throw in another $100 worth of plugs and wires and still that is $450 left for labor which seems high.

IMO it would be a massive mistake to put an electric WP on a car if YOU wont do this basic work yourself. There are modifications to cars that should only be used by people who do their own wrenching nd IMO the electric WP is one of them.

I got a new waterpump. Everything is installed and it ran really well for about 20 miles. Now it sounds like I have a bad lifter

Dude. LS7 lifters are cheap. (around $100) I know that is not comforting but it's a cheap fix if you'll get all the gaskets you need and do it yourself.

I guess it would make sense to do roller rockers while I'm in there, huh?

Yes, but you don't really need to. Good RR's are in the $280-up range so that's a bit more outta pocket. You'll need to take off the TB, fuel rails, vaccuum lines, and intake manifold to get to the lifter valley.

Thanks for the advice guys. I took it to my mechanic today and he said it sounds more like a pulley. He told me he wouldn't worry about it. Sprayed it with some WD-40 and it's not as noisy. Still kinda loud, but not as obnoxious as it was. I guess the guy **** the bed when he installed the waterpump and messed something up.

How loud of a noise are we talking about here? and can you reproduce it while the car is standing still?
Operate the TB with your right hand use use your ear (and a peice of hose if you have it) to locate the source of the noice.

Is the car cooling properly if you let it sit and idle for 20 min?

Sprayed "what" with WD40? An idler pulley? Because this noise started after only
20 miles after the repair, you need to find out what it is, ASAP. Rather than the
mechanic saying what he *thinks* it sounds like can be different than what it really is,
and he needs to determine what the problem is.
