Default LT4 Hotcam kit

I was looking through the summit book and i ran across this kit. And it seems like a great buy considering 1.6rr's, cam and full exhaust was my next choice of mod.. What are you guy's opinions on this kit?

It's a weaker OLD cam. If you are looking for big gains look elsewhere.

I'm not a fan of the hotcam kit, here's two of the better threads discussing the hotcam.

I think the Hotcam kit is a pretty good deal but I think when I do it I will be using this to choose my cam. https://ls1tech.com/forums/lt1-lt4-modifications/836200-stock-head-cam-cam-swap-guide.html

Weaker? Poor choice of words. The hot cam serves it's purpose for certain set ups. It's by far not the biggest and baddest cam, but weak... And for a OLD cam it's proven to be good quality to the day for being a dinosaur

^ compared to similar newer cams that perform better, yes it is a weaker choice.

If you plan to go bigger in the future(which if you are like most of us, you will) then the LT4 kit is not the best investment. It does include everything, but I would not use those springs on anything bigger than the LT4 hotcam. If you plan to go bigger, then I would stay away from the LT4 kit.

What r your plans for your car? Is it a daily driver, street strip, full drag car? What times are you shooting for? Theis simple little questions can help us and you make a decision if the hotcam kit would be best for your needs.

The springs in the kit are insufficient for the heavier LT1 valves, so add in the cost of replacing those at a minimum.

The rockers in the kit are limited to .550 lift and are 3/8" stud so like said if you plan on more power in the future you would be buing rockers over again too.

It works, makes OK power but it's popularity is bades not on results but on the fact it is sold as a kit at a reasonable price and from there most people who choose it are uneducated on the subject so they don't realize the springs are not good enough and the rockers are not up to much more than this setup.

from what i searched up and read and from reading the comments that you all wrote and reading the links that were posted up, the LT4 hotcam kit is not for me. This is a street strip car, i am wanting to run low 12.5s or faster on motor and 11.5s to 12.0s on spray.

I don't think the cam is that bad personally for a sleeper. Buddy of mine has it in his 96 LT-4, no anything other than a decent tune and muffler eliminators. It sounds bone stock after it's warmed up and ran 12.2 @ 117 with a really old set of slicks. That isn't to bad if that's what your looking for. Although that is on a LT-4 and not a LT-1.

It would be a bad idea to run those shitty or any Self Aligning RR's with a cam like the cc306. Definetly should go NSA with a cam that likes to rev fairly high.

I have no idea how you got5 that idea from my post. The 306 cam, definetely NOT, the 503 is close and will depend on geometry.

Basically my opinion is that the only worthwhile part of that kit is the springs and those only for use with a stock cam and 1.6 rockers which would be smarter to go non-SA and something like ProMagnums not with those low lift limited SA aluminum rockers.
