Default bad vibration?????

hey guys, i cant tell if this is one of my wheels off balance or the driveshaft doing this. but when going between 60-65mph and high speed 90+ i get a really bad vibration that shakes the whole car. any other speed it doesnt do it. would my poly trans mount have anything to do with it? or what is making it do this?

If you're still using the stock steel DS, Id say its the DS. When I had my stock steel DS I put a poly trans mount on and the vibration got so bad I ended up putting a stock trans mount back on, then buying a aluminum ds from a ls1 car....now problem's solved.

it might also be a warped brake rotor, I have had this happen before. is the shake seem more in the front of the car or rear? if it is in the front of the car odds are that is a rotor or wheel, it is recommended to balance your tires about as much as you rotate the tires. I know American / Discount tire has free tire balance if you buy the tires from them, if not I think it is 5 or 10 bucks for all corners. That is where I would start is with the tires, then try the rotors, good luck bro.

i do still have the stock steel driveshaft. would yours just vibrate at certain speeds or all the time?

and to the other post, it feels more like its coming from the rear and middle of the car. i have ls1 front brakes and the rotors were turned and balanced. the steering wheel doesnt vibrate or wobble when it does this just everything else.

I never noticed the vibration problem until I installed the poly trans mount either...at that point I did some searching on here and found that the vibration from the stock steel DS is pretty common and most people just put an aluminum DS from a ls1 fbody. You might be able to install a new stock trans mount and not have such bad vibration...but I would go ahead and buy an aluminum DS and not have to worry about it anymore.

if you search on this problem in the forum there are numerous threads from the past about this, your stock DS has too small of a diameter and depending on your gear ratio, the higher speeds you reach, the worse the vibration will become. My vibration was so bad it broke my pinion yoke before. something to keep in mind about solving the problem!

Well I had some torque arm mount issues already, which put extra stress on the pinion angle but needless to say having that vibration that bad can potentially lead to drastic problems. If GM was offering 1LE driveshafts as a recall back in the day, you know its an issue you should take care of asap.

I would have to say the poly trans mount is the most of your problems, I have one also and it does the same thing.

could be driveshaft, uneven tire wear, trans mount, or something else.

LT1 steel driveshafts have a long history of vib problems at high speeds. Normally consisting b/t 90-120 mph. The vibration frequencies run up and down your drive shaft. When a specific speed is met, these frequencies collide together and will create that nasty vibration shock that your feeling. Upgrading to an aluminum LS1 DS or having a custom one made "should" eliminate this shake. If you would have kept gaining speed, eventually your car would have quit vibrating. Hope this helps.

keep watching ebay for those driveshafts or else on the FS thread on here, they usually go for a dime a dozen
