TEA/TFS are the best flowing heads imo.

That cam should work fine on the stock heads, people have ran some impressive times with that cam in stock headed cars. But if you decide to swap heads, maybe look at a different cam, I'd stick with LT1 castings though. Many of the head porters have cams set up with their head packages for emissions purposes that make decent power.

Think I should maybe do a little work on my stock heads? That is, if I should decide to stick with that Crane..

doing work to your stock heads will help the 227 or any cam. the 227 cam does perform well with stock heads and Crane 10309 spring kit

with a good tune you should have no problem passing smog. I have more motor and cam and I easily pass OBD2 Calif. test only smog.

200cc AI CNC heads with the 227 cam should run like a beast and still pass with flying colors.

I would have to say going with ported stockers would be the way to go especially in terms of the potential you can get from these heads and cost. If your really considering going with heads perhaps look into getting a matched head/cam package from say Ai or the like but if your set on running the 227 thats no problem, a set of heads wont hurt a thing and you will have one hell of a sleeper thats for sure. If I had an extra LT1 car around and some cash my dream would be to run the 227 with some nice ported heads, 6-speed with 4.10's, and the quietest exhaust I could get and do a spanking on those LS1 boys.

I like/use ported stockers...Mine are LPE CNC/hand blended with 2.00/1.56s then re-ported in 2005 by Eric Bradby (E.B. Porting)...May be a bit much for what you're doing now, but will keep up with any future cam changes...

Yeah I just found a machine shop by my work and I think I am going to have them do my heads and run the 227. It's gonna be a fun torque monster when it's done!

Thanks for the input

Ai 185's would be more of a better choice for the 227 cam, FYI

when/if he wants to change to a larger cam/displacement, he should replace heads again?

Yeah, gotta keep that intake port velocity as high as possible. The 185s probably have better low lift flow than the 200s also for that all important low end torque. Just think, this could be a high 14, low 15 second ride if he does it right!

I'm learning something here. I always thought you speced a cam to go with your heads. I guess I'm never to old to learn. Wait until I tell the Kid about this. He's still young and learning more every day.

Thanks for the info!

Oops, he's not using the 185 or 200s. Be prepared to get a large ration of equine scat if you follow 95ZRagtop6M's choice of h/c parts. How thick is your skin?

i have one of "your kids" cams in my car, and it was spec'd for "my heads" too. Yet I'm going w/ an Ai setup now....I wonder why?

glad to help!

Why dont you ask all the peoples whos valvesprings lost ~30lbs of pressure in <4k miles from their sledgehammer lobes? If you want a reliable setup I'de check out Ai and lingenfelter since they have proven setups instead of buying from people online that talk down on every other head porter out there and saying how everyone elses heads are garbage, because they don't have any impressive results of their own to post up.

Benny, Benny, Benny,

If you wonder why, how would I know? However here are my best guesses:

Money? Naivete? Fear of speed? Thin skin? Peer pressure? Small attachments? All of the preceeding?

You did ask...
