Default header with no gaskets to head

how many you guys running no gaskets on your header flange where it meets the head? rtv silicone best sealer for this setup?

FWIW...gaskets are too cheap and it would prolly take you longer to get the silicone on and sealed than to just slip a gasket in there. Im not sure silicone will hold the pressure like a gasket will. Plus a header gasket thats leaky or excessively leaking will cause damage to the heads. I recently had to change mine, paid a little more for a better gasket than what was on there so I wont have to do it again or for a long time at least.

Thats a dirtcar trick cuz they constanly working on engines, you really dont want to do it b\c that doesnt last long at all.

ok thats what i was thinking. somebody mentioned doing the no gasket thing but i was pretty leary.now do you think the felpros would be a better choice over aluminum gaskets for any reason?

I can tell you I blew out a percy's aluminum gasket. Kinda expensive if one of the bolts come loose. I know on their package it says they won't get wrecked, well thats just not true.

I've always ran the fel-pros on both my cars and havent ever had an issue. I think I used the 1406's.

1405? That's the square port model. The 1470's are the D-port configuration.

1406's are D-port

I have used them on both cars and they've worked great. Thunderracing sells them in the gasket section for LT1's.

i hear the best thing to do is silicone metal to metal...

myself havent ahd problems with felpro stock carbon gaskets
