And people say that getting rid of the gas tax for the summer will only save the average family $30...yeah right.

Good buy!

lol. I hear it now. "I wonder if a 76 will fit...".

I ran the numbers on buying a new (beater) car, doesn't make sense for me. I don't drive enough. If I completely parked my Suburban, it'd only save me $20/month. I can't get rid of the 'burb, guy's gotta have a truck...

I hear ya. I am keeping the truck and will just drive it on weekends and to pull the Camaro and boat around. This car was only $2500 and drives perfect. I paid cash for it and the insurance is only $18 per month.

I have a long drive (in traffic) to work everyday so this is a good investment.

I was thinking 91mm for it Andrew!

Tony, just be warned. VWs break down more than Eclipses and Eagle Talons.

Really? I researched good reviews on the car and called a buddy at a VW dealership. Said it is a good car but just make sure and change the oil every 3000 miles because they are prone to engine failure with over-run oil.

very true.....they also take a special oil that in most places is only availible at a VW dealer.

Congrats Tony...you will like the car. They drive very well and have timeless styling.

Don't worry I will. Have lots of questions about it. Might be easier to go that route. One question I have is how much strain it puts on the front of the crank? I guess not much if I go with a cog setup right?

Yeah, definitely not as much as a serpintine setup. Like I was telling Ellis... if you want to go big I have come other options as well.

I had a 2004 Ford Powerstroke turbo diesel I bought brand new back in 04. I owned it 6 months. Could not stand that truck!

Try the Duramax with the Allison trans and a programmer/exhaust/intake...I never thought my truck could smoke 33" tires so easily. Just insane.

Congrats on the purchase - I believe turbo's are the future. Keep us posted on the mileage, and as Ray stated - make sure you use VW's recommended oil.
