Default Failed Inspection

The set up hasn't changed at all from last year, Hooker long tubes, dual catted magna flow Y, all air, egr is present and functioning. Maybe put a 1K miles on it in the last year. The car has a tick coming from the back of the passenger side head, I'm thinking it could have a miss fire on the 6 or 8 cyl maybe?

Sorry to hear that Neil, man as I have always said they are really becomming ***** when it comes to inspection here in Houston. Hey check all your plug wires as I used to have a big problem with my wires burning on the headers and then arching causing that ticking noise and it failed me as well during an inspection a couple of years ago as well. Let me know what you find and good luck.

Well on inspection, number 6 plug wire and the header primary decided to become friends, the number 6 wire is just laying on the header tube. I imagine thats what is causing the tick.

I was looking at you results and I wanted to know how old is your EGR ? and when you say it works did you apply vaccume to it ? when you put vaccum to it the car should stumble or die depending on how much vaccum is applyed. did you check the diaphram for proper operation ? it should not be cracked and move freely with the motor off, meaning it will move with very little effort from your fingers. I want to say when your HC's and your CO's are high it means your EGR is not working to its fullest, it could have carbon build up or a cracked diaphram, or even no vaccume to it, leaking gasket. defently check your spark wires, make shure they are connecting to the plug and not grounding out due to a crack in the wire, if need pull aplug and see what it looks like, good luck bro.

Since he found one wire burned and the number 6 cylinder not firing properly I would venture to say that is his problem. When mine was burned and I failed inspection I showed very similar numbers and the car kept bucking during the test. Once I fixed the wire problem it burned cleaner than a new car. Neil, get it fixed and see what happens as you won't have to pay for another inspection just take them your receipt and they'll run it again.

Fix that plug wire! and if that does not seem to work, take it to Brazos county. Cheaper inspection and no sniffer.

Hate to burst your bubble, but if you have the car registered in Harris county (houston) then some places will not inspect it. Used to live in CS as I went to TAMU and ran into this problem after they went to the sniffer test. You might find someone willing to do it but, alot of inspectors won't these days.

Been doing my bird for the past 3 years. No problems. I tell them I'm a student, which I am, (so that could be a problem, but I have never heard of anyone getting in trouble even though they were not students), and they get it in and out quick. I only had one problem with my tint on my front windshield so I took it off and I was good to go.

Could be an exhaust leak messing with the o2 sensors. It would read more air than really was there causing it to dump fuel. The only reason i say that is because you very rarely diagnose a burnt wire by sound, especially since the engine is running and fans are on. Not that you cant, just that it is rarely very audible.

Well I visually saw it resting on the header tube with burn marks, also just started it up since its a little dark out and I can see the wire arching. I ordered some new plug wires from Thunder, I have like 15 days to retest for free, so If I can get it all squared away, that would be good. The car always ran smooth, never gave me any indication of a miss or some thing was wrong. Seemed like it pulled fairly strong as well, but I guess it makes some sense. I imagine a exhaust leak seemed like the likley thing to be, guess not.

High HC is usually due to a misfire. High CO is too much unburned fuel.

true that. high co = rich. high o2 = running lean
