You can cut just the shroud and you can do it with a hacksaw or air tools (cut off wheel) if you have one. It's really not that much you have to take off.

Amen brotha. I bought a relayed warning system from a very reputable dealer and it has a light to warn if the ground is failing or if the pump itself is about to poop out. Very well worth the investment. Also with a 160* t-stat, and a manual fan switch I can pretty much control how warm the engine gets whenever I like.

If you wire it properly you can wire in fail-safes and warning systems to make it as pain-free as possible if it does fail.

Same here. I would not worry about it. I always check the temp gauge since I bought the car and it has not changed sine the ewp. I would do it.

Mine is a "everyother day" driver with slow rushour traffic for an hour. I have not had any problems that I didn't get from the mechanical pump, and i'm still on a 180.

All I know is that if you monitor your gauges like you should frequently, you will be able to spot your temp gauge getting hotter (your EWP failing) and be able to pull over in time. I love my EWP as it frees up HP, I mean I have to deal with it in LA traffic and im still happy about its cooling capabilities. Its a definite worth it mod!

Oh yea dont crap out on how you wire it. Get a painless EWP relay and call it a day. I mean if you want you can also get a warning light but its up to you.

what temp do you usually run at? I planned on swapping out my 160 for a 170tstat when I get an ewp fearing it would run too cool, right now it runs 175-180.

It's an excellent mod for the LT1 guys. The price alone should be it's best selling point. Have you seen what they charge for the LS1 guys? Yikes! In their case I would say no, but for us it's a no-brainer. If you decide to dive into the motor you can also swap out to a much better timing chain if you so wish to, since you no longer need that big geared piece.

I have a MEZ HD, been using it for years. NO PROBLEMS. As for the naysayers, I remember the same doom and gloom about electric coolling fans, and fuel pumps.
