Default Anybody used AFR's 215cc raised runner LT1 heads??

Anybody used AFR's 215cc raised runners LT1 heads??

I know these heads require the use of a converted carb style intake and can't use the stock LT1 or LT4 intkake mainfold.

But I hear they the closet thing you will get to LSx head perfomance out of traditional SBC 23 degree head.

Truth or hype???

What was your HP/TQ results?? Both engnine dyno and rearwheel????

What kind of special valvetrain is needed to run these heads?

That used to be the best 23* head you can get. But I do not think they are available anymore. Rick Intrau ran them on his record breaking turbo LT1. You might look into the new AFR Eliminator 227's though. They will flow better than the old style 215's. I am really thinking of getting a set myself.

Have you seen the new "Camaro Performers" magazine? they did a 396 LT1 with single plane solid roller (huge solid roller) with AFR 215's. Made 701 fwhp. They said those heads flow 335 cfm out of the box with AFR's in house CNC porting!! You can get an extra 10 cfm out of them with a little hand porting!

Default I saw the same article!

Guys,

It is in the July 2008 issue of Camaro Performers magazine on pages 42 to 47. The story is called "701 HP 396ci LT1-Seriously"

The build was done by Erik Koenig of HK Racing Engines, Houston TX,(he is a former teacher at School of Automotive Machinist).

The 396ci LT1 has a 1050 CFM Dominator carb, has been deOptisparkized with a regular distributor and has a electric water pump but it is still a LT1 block with the reverse cooling. According to the article the part number is PN 1210 for the LT1 version of raised runner head. Block off plate are available through GMPP.

Erik stated stated in the article he ditched the EFI, stock PCM and manifold because of the 7000 RPM limit of the PCM, the high cost of an aftermarket EFI system and the choking of the stock manifold for high HP duty. They hit 701 HP @ 7400 RPM's and max TQ of 535 @ 6400 RPM's.
