Ok i tell you guys the story i was at this party and the party was at my neighbors house. Some how the conversation got on fast cars and i told them i have a 383. Then my neighbor said yea i heard the car and it isnt a 383 order to have a 383 you have to have a 400 cam and i was like no dude your wrong i have never seen anyone on this site have a 400 cam in there 383 its usally a 306 or a 308 cam. But i could be wrong to im not a mechanic but i am learning alote about these cars.

A 400 crank was the original way people made 350 blocks into 383s.

306 is an aftermarket companies part number for a cam. Never heard of a 308 that series of cams runs from 304-306 and are not that popular a choice even.

These days they make cranks for this purpose so there is no reason to put an actual 400 crank in the motor, though I do know of one guy who did. He might even see this and respond. He will admit it was not the way he would do it over.

I am saying using an actual old crank out of a 400 was not a good way to go about it. Using a new crank meant for the purpose can be fine.

hey 96capricemgr you sound like you know a **** tone about lt1 or atleast more than i do but what do u think about the best parts like bottom end and top end of a motor for a 383 or should i do a lt4 hot cam kit since everytime i have a modded car it doesnt go so well for me. My freind had a z28 running high 13 with headers and 373 rear end. I want to be at high 12 thats all i care as long as its not 13. so can you give me some advice.
