Question LE1 LE2 How to tell them apart by looking at them HELP.

Hey guys Im going to look at a set of heads tomorrow that my bros buddy is selling, hes told me they are LE2 heads a couple of time but then he said they were LE1's not sure if he just messed upo when he was speaking or if there LE1's is there an easy way to look at them and be able to tell? I know the LE2's are gonna be ported way more but ive never seen ported lt1 heads in person before. and does anyone know roughly what each stage flows? so I know what to look for on the flow sheets he has.

Hopefully there LE2's then ill have a nice winter project

Thanks in advance for the help guys.

No real way to tell unless you have a trained eye. Seeing as you haven't seen a set of ported heads before I would say take pictures and get the guys name. Get a hold of Lloyd and see if he remembers the guy and the heads.

Guess that's something new he does. Mine have my initials in them, but that's it.

Wouldn't the LE2s have the bigger valves?

I can put lots of different valves and springs on heads depending on what the customer already has, what his budget is and what cam/RPM range he is gonna use, etc, etc.

Add to that the fact that some heads are sold as LE heads when they are not done by me at all, some heads are done by me as "portwork only" and I charge them $500 for that and then they get machine work done at a local shop to them and what ever parts they want to use.

These heads have been sold as LE2/LE3, etc, even if they were done 7-8 years ago or 2 years ago and the customer thinks he is getting a set of heads that I sell for $1350-$1650 when they could be a set that I did $500 of work to and that is all or possibly never even touched at all.

I have seen several people send me pics of their "newly purchased" LE2/LE3 heads only to break the news that they have a set of heads I did 6 years ago when I charged $400 for portwork and installed a set of $100 CM 612 springs (when thought to be good) and $100 set of cheep 2.02/1.60 valves. That customer spent $900 along time ago and ran the heads for 4-6 years and now sold them for $1000 plus cores to someone. I have seen it several times.

Best suggestion is to call/email me and give me the name/initials on the heads and who you bought them from. i can usually decipher what was done here and what that customer paid.

I work with each customer and get them what they want for their set up and budget so there is an endless number of what valves/springs/portwork can be done to a set of heads that I have done. As mentioned, some are sold as my heads and I have never touched them before.

Hey Lloyd, if your still on here, where are you located in Texas? That phone number is very DFWish and I'm in the metroplex.

FWIW, I purchased used LE2 heads a few years back.
The seller shipped to Lloyd for verification. I was satisfied with that.

I recently sent them back to Lloyd for some rework and new springs.
He did a great job cleaning everything up and I can't wait to see how the new valvejob performs.
