Default True Dual LT1 Guys...

So I am deciding on exhaust....right now my car just has LTs ORY and a Bullet Dumped... Sounds like a dump truck!

I am heavily debating doing a set of 3" true duals with an X-Pipe, as I already have a pair of 3" Magnaflows sitting in my garage....I had two different sets of TDs on my LS1 car and they always sounded sweet...I assume an LT1 is no different...

Are they still worth it on an LT car?...

If you only have bolt-ons, I dont see the need to do 3" TD's..2.5" would be just fine, and save you a little on room, far as ground clearance and tucking the pipe where you want to run it. And, yes...do it

mines 2.5" all the way back. finished with 2 flowmasters... not my personal preference. but yea. it sounds great. i think 3" is a lil too big and youll hate your ground clearance. lol.

In my opinion, a nicely done x-pipe true dual system on an LT1 sounds better than the same setup on a LS1.

I have 3" duals on my car only because I got a great deal on the 3" x-pipe kit and mufflers. A 2.5" system would make a huge difference and would still give you excellent ground clearance.

As far as a 3" parts list goes :

Universal X-pipe kit : Jegs PN# 555-30662
(2)Header to X-pipe stepped band clamps : Jegs PN# 555-30733
Two choice mufflers
Exhaust Turndowns : Jegs PN# 555-30643 (sold as a pair)

Have it all welded together except for the header to x-pipe junction. The exhaust shop you choose to use should have the right exhaust hangers that they might charge you $5 a piece for.

the previous owner installed it, but i have pacesetter LT's, 2.5 inch tubing, magnaflow x-pipe, and two dynomax bullets, with turn downs. sounds awesome at high rpm. ill probably finish it off and run it out the back.

I would just go with the 2.5" unless you are planning on doing some serious work to your engine...

idk why everyone is bashing 3" duals? i have 3" duals and lost 0 ground clearance with them. The lowest part of my exhaust is my collectors and that isn't even the lowest point on my car (the crossmember for my torque arm is the lowest). I am currently running dumped w/ an x pipe but I have tubing to get it run out the back waiting in my room for a friend to fab it up. I didn't get the x pipe kit I had a local fbody guy make mine. It took 4 tight radius u bends ($25 a piece), 2 wide radius u bends ($25 a piece) and I believe 4 ft straight piece which was like $16. all together parts was like 200 and my powersticks were 100 for both.

no ones bashing 3" duals.... obivously your gonna lose ground clearance with 3" duals compared to 2.5" duals regardless... bigger pipe= closer to the ground.its simple. its just 3" duals are an overkill... on a bolt on car... none the less... its just preference. he asked what wed do and we answered. If he lives in an area with few bumps, and doesnt mind spending a lil extra on 3" pipe. then by all means i would tell him to do so. but if he wants to grind his teeth together less when seeing a bump ahead, and doesnt have money for 3" duals... by all means... go 2.5". like i said. i love my 2.5" with cutouts after the collectors sounds amazing.

had 3" TD's on my car and it sounded AWESOME. That also had something to do with 12.5 to 1 383, LE2 cam, 1 7/8 headers, etc but still, the exhaust sounded AWESOME and would get looks everywhere I went.

I got these parts . . . .

I spent about $120 at the muffler shop getting it installed. They added a few 3" pieces of pipe and a couple of pieces needed to be bent.

i agree, it gives a deeper tone, and w/ engine load has a really strong agressive sound almost like a dragster at WOT, lol and mellow at idle or lower rpm ranges.

heres a pic of ground clearance on my 3 inch X pipe

I've got 2.5" true duals with an X and have everything tucked up tight with bullets dumped, but I hate the drone and not being able to drive with the windows up without smelling the exhaust. This winter I'm redoing the back half and going 2.5" over the axle then bumping it up to 3" with the mufflers all the way in back with ebay CME tips and the valence thats sold by a guy on here. And I'm probably doing 50 series delta flow flowmasters to keep it a little more quiet since its way too loud at WOT with the dumped bullets IMHO

I went straight for long tubes, 2.5" x-pipe with flowmaster 10 series (one chambers) under the axle to the rear bumper. I absolutely love the sound and it is quiet inside, and damn loud outside. I get nothing but complements on it. It cost me a total of ~$450. And the lowest point in the exhaust is my drivers side header...
