I bought mine from a GP a Vette club put togeather for $435 last year. You might find something like that on a search or pay retail from Summit/Jegs, etc.

IMHO the MSD unit is "built" better but weather that translates into being "better" remains to be seen.

Whatever unit you get use lock tite on the rotor screws.

I got mine from an ebay store for 400 dollars back when they first came out.

I think it was an error by the seller who had it buy it now for 400.

but then I saw it a few days later same seller for 499.

Good luck man

This guy is back to a Delco opti after the MSD went bad at low mileage. Hopefully he will see this and tell you himself.

I think its hit or miss. Mine served me well for over three years. I didn't think to loctite the rotor screws either, I installed the gasket and threw it on. I'm gonna throw a new cap/rotor on it and reuse it when I swap that LT1 into my Silverado.

Personally, I'm glad I went with an OEM AC/Delco over the MSD when I replaced my opti.

OEM w/ the MSD rotor and cap. Seems to be holding up well for the original opti..."knock on wood"

OEM with MSD cap/rotor and loctite, has seen several 6500rpm scenarios and hasn't skipped a beat. Genuine AC Delco/Delphi FTMFW

Hey:

Go with a genuine stock GM Delco opti and a MSD cap and rotor, or a Dynaspark, http://www.dynaspark.net/advantage, whichever way you go loctite, the rotor screws, MSD is either hit or miss, depending on how old a unit you get, older MSD opti have been known to fail, newer ones not so much. but is it, because not enough time has elapsed, or did they fix all of the problems they had, I hope the latter, but only time will tell.

I used permatex red threadlocker on mine. Tightened down the screws wrist tight, the screws are small and don't need a lot of torque.
