Default just installed PS LT's

wowwwee. putting headers on lt1 cars is a P.I.T.A! took me 2 days working about 6 hours on it each day. not to bad. these were pacesetter race style Long tube headers. no A.I.R. fittings or EGR. i dont recommend doing this yourself unless you are highly mechanically inclined and have plenty of experience (and a place to throw wrenches and not break anything important!) well im going to do a complete write up on how to install these headers starting from beginning to end. i took plenty of photo's to go with the write up. i did search the forum for tips and tricks to ease the install but i didnt get the details i was looking for. one method i did use to get the passenger header in was to cut a little off the tranny ear wear the starter sits in. the header slid right in after that. did not affect any structure or anything. well heres some pics of me working on it and the end result. ill have better pics up soon. this is just a teaser right now. btw both headers went in easier through the bottom than top.

Haha, I just have to laugh because when I installed the headers on my car they went in like butter with just the engine & trans in the car and the rest of the engine bay empty. It took literally about 15 minutes, haha

Have you noticed much of a difference in sound/power with the PS LT's. Did you get that special coating on them? Worth the price? I am looking at the same headers but I want the AIR/EGR version to try to stay emmissions compliant its getting harder and harder though. I live in CT and I have a feeling its going to suck when my car cant pass the wand so they won't reregister it.

lol its not installing them thats difficult, its getting all the other junk out of the way! i didnt unbolt any motor mounts. luckily for me the manifold bolts were very loose (unfortunate for the car since it had massive exhaust leaks).
you really need to know what you are doing though when installing these. on a range of difficulty from 1 (being easiest) to 10 id say this is about a 7. not for a novice to try or you'll be scratching your head saying "wtf am i doing?!" haha.
as for sound and power it sounds and acts like a completely different car. i have no emmisions equipment on the car anymore. a.i.r. is the dumbest thing created. i understand it but just dont want that junk on my car. im waiting to tune it once i put my cc503 cam in. i have no "service engine soon" light either. i recommend putting a new gasket on the egr block off plate too when installing that. it seems like the power of the car has changed dramatically. low end hasnt changed much but mid to top end is broader. you definetly need a high flow intake to get the most out of a header install. more air in, more air out, more power.

it resembles the sound of an old muscle car from the mid late 60's early 70's ha. very raspy and deep. rumbles the ground and your chest

i am always looking to do something different with my cars. i want to lower it but the xpipe is very low to the ground already so i have to try adjusting that. ill try and take a vid of it running and post it. not sure how the sound quality will be.
heres a picture of my old truck that i put a lot of time, money, blood, sweat, tears into! nothing like this around either. i loved this truck to death

I got both of my ps lt in from the top. Driver side fell into place once I took out the coolant temp sender and the spark plug wire loom. Passenger side I had to take the valve cover off and muscle it in.

Some tips I have that had me stuck for awhile include:

1. When taking the oil dipstick tube out, clamp a pair of vice grips near where it enters the block, and twist. Wiggling sorta works, but twisting it made it come out super easy. It should have been obvious to me, seeing as how that is the method I use for removing my trumpet mouthpiece.

2. When putting the steering linkage back on, it is ok to turn the key to the on position to unlock the steering wheel. That had me hung up for a good hour.

3. If your are getting a new Y pipe, don't worry about snapping the bolts that hold it on, it will still fall off.

4. If you have coated headers, buy the extensions. Yes, you can splice the wires and solder like I did, but if you get coated headers, the coating will more than likely foul out the o2s. Then you have to buy new o2's and cut them to resolder.

i took my drivers side valve cover off, the steering linkage and the oil filter and slid the header in through the bottom. helluva easier time than through the top imo. my headers were not coated so i went ahead and spliced extension on my o2's. takes time but worked great and no service engine light (yet). im not going to get into much detail in this thread just wanted to throw a few pics up and some info.

Yes!! they are PURPLE HORNIES!! lol ive always wanted them on a vehicle of mine so why not start with an lt1 car. you can order them at advance auto. $45 bucks a piece. as for fitment so far, the xpipe is sitting a little low i scraped it a few times so far.

I hope you used the right gauge wires. My friend and I fabbed up some 02 extensions for my car and they shorted out the 02's. I'm no idiot and neither is my friend, so I would consider it very easy to short those things out. Save yourself the headache and just order the REAL plug and play extensions.

used the wire that came with the headers so assuming Pacesetter did their homework the wires are the correct size gauge. they look it and i have plenty of experience with wiring so i think its safe to say they wont be shorting. thanks for the warning though i'll add that in when i do my write up.

secondly, i just got my PS LT's as well and was wondering if all you realistically did was get an engine hoist, unbolt the motor tilt it just a slight bit and they slid right in?

im really not too sure how to get a video onto my computer. got a new video camera and dont have much experience with it... sorry guys. ill figure it out though i promise!

thanks for the compliment on the truck. she was my first project. now i got this formula to turn nasty. to bad my clutch is starting to slip. not saying the headers caused a huge HP increase but its enough for the stock clutch with 141k on it to feel and stop doing its job lol.

if you dont have an cherry picker you could always do wat i did for the passenger side and take a cut off wheel to the tab on the tranny where your starter sits. does not affect anything.

shud be easier with a lift. i had to jack the *** end of the car up to get the right angle for the header to slip in. i dont recommend doing that its unsafe but i only had 2 jack stands so we backyard mechanics use what we got =)
