Default Help for a newb on Lt1's

I recently purchased a 93 Z28 Lt1 with either a rod knocking or a wrist pin issue. I am pulling the engine this week to find out what's wrong and what parts I will need. I know parts are parts but the key is the correct combination of parts and tune. I mainly deal in LSX based engines but once again it's just nuts and bolts ETC.

I got the car as a DD so I won't be looking for anything extreme but w/150K on the motor should I just get OE rods, bearings, lifters, rings, hone, and gaskets, or should I throw a slighty bigger cam or possibly strenthen the bottom end?

The car came with a CAI, LT's wrapped, Edlebrock TB, MSD wires, SFC's, Aerochamber muff w/ what looks like either 2 3/4 or 3" exhaust, drop springs, and that's it to my kowledge.

This was someone's race/play car and gave her too many rpm's I think and traded her in.
Like I said I'm no guru on Lt1's so any info will be appreciated!

rebuild and throw a LT4 hot cam kit in it.. Still a nice DD cam and gives you some extra play when you want it..

yeah, if you're redoing the motor there's no reason not to at least go a little bigger on the cam. The stock cam is anemic.

+1. Freshen up the block, do a stock rebuild, throw in a LT4 hotcam kit, bolt-ons and you'll be set for a good DD/street performer.

Another plus 1 for that idea.

Wow, I'm going to go ahead and say upgrade the rods so you can spin it higher safely and throw in a cc503 cam. It'll drive well, pass emissions, and make GOOD power. Then later down the road you'll more than likely decide to go bigger and you can thanks to the better bottom end you already dealt with.

keep in mind that 93s are speed density, and not mass air.

I have read a little bit on speed density but never really worked with it before. From what I understand it's better than MAF and had planned on learning more about it and upgrading my 02 to SD for a better tune for the STS.

Thanks for the info guys.

SD is not better than MAF unless you are making so much power (500-600+ typically) that the MAF becomes a restriction.

I'd figure out what the problem is before you make plans. I think changing any internal part (for something better than stock) with out going forged or with a larger crank is a waste.

I had my 93 converted to mass air......it cost a pretty penny.
