Default Rebuild a 4l60e or Buy?

I have a '96 z28 Camaro with 147,000 miles on it. Im pretty sure the tranny does as well. A little bolt came loose and got wedged in between the bell housing and the converter. It busted a piece out of the casing of the tranny and caused it to crack. It does leak a little tranny fluid but still shifts fine. I was wandering where this bolt came from? Also, I want to buy a 3600 Vig stall to put in it. Should I go ahead and buy the stall and weld up the crack? Do you recommend putting in a rebuild kit? If so what kind? OR Should I buy a new tranny? If so what kind of tranny do you recommend? I want to stay in between $1000 to $1500 dollar range if possible. Sorry for all the questions but just wanting to make the right choice. Please, any suggestions would be great. Thanks!

i had the same issue in my car, however the crack in the bellhousing was there when i bought it. i would NOT reccomend putting a stall in there until you a get a new transmission. You might try welding it but you can find used stock 4l60e for around 300 bucks. thats what i did, then put the stall in. Of course you could always go with one of the vendors you should be able to get a stout 4l60e for about 1500 from them.

TH400, alittle bit more money but worth it. Wont break, cant race on it, and ready to go. If you want a 4 speed go with the TH350

i went with PERFORMABUILT LVL2 for $1650 . rated to about 700hp. theres a lvl 1 also for a bit cheaper. no core needed and free ship. do some research. but dont get a stall that high withough having your tranny built to handle it. but if you do... be shure to get a tranny cooler.

I was checking them out earlier and they seem to be pretty good. Should I go ahead a spend the money for the stage 2 tranny? Do they have a core charge fee? I couldnt find that on the website.

they dont have a core charge fee. i believe if you want they will take your core and give you 75 buks. all their prices are shipped and include a tranny cooler also.
i went ahead and spent the extra for the level 2 . just incase i decide to hit above 500hp i know the tranny will hold up!.

What kind of stall are you going to be running? The brand?
