Default Aftermarket Intake Elbows

Looking at a few intake elbows I see some of them are wide open and some have a split down the middle. Is there a reason for this? Is the air susposed to flow better to the throttle body or something?

I have a CRT elbow. It was cheap and is very good quality. Has nothing in the center of it. I'm happy.

Trick Flow intake elbow. Got if from summit a while back. Nothing in the center...


HOW THE HELL DO YOU POST PICTURES AS THUMBNAILS INSTEAD OF FULLSIZE?!?! PLEASE SOMEBODY PM ME HOW.... haha.. hate posting monstrous photos...

I think thats to make it flow better if you have an Air Foil. I don't think it goes all the way through the tube.

I dont think the .3 increase in hp that could be gained from slightly smoother airflow justifies the $40 price jump between that elbow and the base Trick Flow elbow. Hell I just took of the donkey dong (silencer) off of the stock one and blocked off the hole for free, its pretty much the same thing, just a little ghetto

get a 1le elbow if you can get ahold of one, some of the metal ones have problems retaining heat.

The Vortech elbow was originally designed to go along with their supercharger kit. Air entering the intake tract through forced induction moves much faster than that of a naturally aspirated engine. The faster air moves through an induction system, the more turbulent it becomes, and turbulence reduces flow.

The divider is there to help smooth out the airflow as it makes the 90* bend.

There was a similar post abut this a while ago..Just beware that those of us with bigger TBs, ie 58mm like I have, most of the metal ones are actually smaller in diameter than the opening of the bigger TBs and may be a flow restriction...My advice is the 1LE, or just take off the donkey dong thing on the standard elbow...

I can say that the trick flow elbow is the same diameter as the 58mm Holley TB on my car. I too was a little worried about that but it matched up nicely.

the split elbo on the vortech kits kills power(dyno proven) stay away from the split ones, the open trick flow piece is nice.........

I still think the 1LE is the way to go...Just my preference but I love it when I pop my hood and everyone says, "It looks too stock to be that fast..."

I would go with the trick flow polymer elbow. It won't heat soak like the metal one's do! The other option would be to get the 1le elbow, wich a guy has on ebay for 75.00. I would think the trick flow polymer would be better for a few more bucks!!

my problem with the factory elbow is that it doesnt fit the SLP CAI well. The SLP is too long, so every time I have to take my CAI off I have to put a LOT of pressure on the elbow, which obviously caused it to rip. I am hoping I can trim down one of these aftermarket elbows, as I would only need about 1/2" difference to make life a lot easier.
