Exclamation Difference between 93 LT1's & 94-97 LT1's

I need help with a question that I can never seem to find the answer too!

What are the differences between 93 LT1's and 94-97 LT1's. I have a 93 formula LT1 T56 and every time I look at any bolt ons etc. in magazines there is always a seperate part for 93's only then another for a 94 on up such a Throttle Bodies, The LT4 kit says 94-97 LT1's, and many other parts.
WHY IS THIS?

I do know that 92-93 LT1's are Speed Density and 94-97's are Mass Air Flow but that does help me.

Please clear this up for me!

http://www.speeddensity.org/showthread.php?t=679

93s don't use a MAF
93-94s use a non-vented opti-spark
93s are speed-density and use a removable chip, 94+ have non-removable flash chips.
93s has smaller injectors (22# VS 24#)
93s had different gearing in the M6s (two options available)
93s did not have CAGS ("Skipshift")
93s had a different IAC (screw in VS bolt in)

See the thread I linked for more

Thanks that clears up some stuff, nice to know that 93's didn't have the (cags). When I first got this car I figured all T56's had the skip shift so I bought the delete wiring for $30 right away and came to find out my car didn't have it, so as a NEWBIE to 4th gens I thought my car had some special skip shift delete option and now I know (DAMMIT!) haha I own six 3rd gens so I am very familiar with those, but this is my first 4th gen so im still figuring them out.

Welcome to the board and gratz on the new purchase.
I'm not sure what model years you owned, but the 93 reminds me a lot of the 92 I used to have.

The hotcam will work, you just have to shorten the dowel pin.

No traction control either and I'm 95% sure no t-tops. Throttle body is also different, mainly due to different transmissions and the IAC change. The autos weren't computer controlled, just a normal 700R4 in them. The 10-speaker versions weren't Monsoon and have a different amp. Intakes are different, 93s are better w/o the fuel rail crossover in the middle of the plenum (wth were they thinking?). So if you buy a ported one off eBay and it says "93-97" make sure that it's a 93, since they basically only work on 93s unless you change fuel rails. The stock manifolds and emissions stuff is slightly different, and the AIR motor was frame mounted instead of motor mounted.

That's all that comes to mind right now.

No T-tops...some claim they are lighter and a little faster...dunno if that is true or not. It has the chevy pink rods, the passenger side airbag does not say camaro or air bag on it. Everything else is true, it is a speed density car. They are just as good as any other car...also in the camaro no leather interior was offered. One other thing about the throttle body, the auto transmissions have the t.v. cable while 94 started the electronic trans...93's have a 4l60/700R4 while the 94 has the 4l60e. The cam needs the splines in the front to put the opti, the later lt1's have a dowel pin. Any other questions i am sure people can answer on the board...welcome!

93s had TTops available. Either that or someone cut a hole in my roof LOL
I know of several 93 Birds with TTops. IIRC, Camaros also had that option.
I don't believe there were convertables available that year though.

"Pink" rods were used in 93-early 95 LT1s, they were later replaced with PM rods (which are actually stronger)
And no, they are not really painted pink.

Here are a pic of my stock rods/pistons. They're listed over in the for sale section.

They're not pink, but from what I recall from a picture of original rods, they have a pink hue to them. So no, yours won't show that since they're used and covered in oil

EDIT: Oh our fans aren't 2-speed either Not sure about 94s, but we use the single-wire O2 sensor. No TCS.

93's had T-Tops. It was about 80% without and 20% with, then flipped the ratio starting in 94.

Was already mentioned.

"...some claim they are lighter and a little faster.."

The general consensus IS they are a tad faster, but it's not really anything significant.

I bought a CC503 used, am I going to need to do something to it to make it work in my 93?

Splined shaft for the Opti and pound or cut the dowel pin down shorter (compare to the one you pull out). 92-94 are the same for that (92 was LT1 only in Vette).

OK, correct there ARE T-Tops in 93. Just very few! It was Vert I must have been thinking.

TransAm-(5121)--4282--839--4018---1103--?-----0---N/A--2369

Special Options: AR9 = Leather / 1LE = Perf. Suspension / R6V = Firehawk / UP3 = Compact Disc

Yup, and of those 201, only 35 had Ttops (including mine )
Which fits into fastbird's 80/20 rule.
Otherwise, I'm not that special
