Default "Shift light" for an M6?

I've decided to install a shift light on my 97 to help me be more consistant, wondering which one will work on a stock ignition (no MSD), how hard are they to hook up? Whats a good inexspensive one?

Wish I could help you I've only installed one hooked up to an MSD 6AL which I might add is a nice upgrade.

With a Raptor Shift depending on the year will hook into the PCM harness on 2002 it was a white wire. Your unit should have instructions, if not you gotta go get them OR use the pickup from a Aftermarket iginition box. Like Crane or MSD

If you have a wiring diagram, just splice into the signal wire coming from the ICM. On my 93 I believe it was the white wire, but on the later cars i think it changed to Pink with a black tracer, but don't quote me.

Either way I run Summit Racing's adjustable in-house brand light and it works just fine.

Are you talking about this one SUM-G2945 Summit precision shifting, no pills needed for 35.95.

I used the raptor shift light on mine... and I believe you tap into the pink wire in the coil harness but you can search and find out im sure.

wire it to the PCM, not the coil.

Here is the light that you guys are talking about..
http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

I bought and installed the same thing.
For the Wiring, I spliced off of the Tach Signal Wire, it was a white wire. I traced it and spliced into it where it runs under the Radio. Then I made a Ground and found an extra IGN Hot Wire.

Nice placement, not only will your opponent probably see your tail lights in the first place, now they get to watch how quickly your banging gears.

When I wired my autometer tach, I hooked it to the coil I think through the MSD 6a. I've wired all three of my fbodies this way, so I don't understand all the use the PCM and not the coil. I'm sure it doesn't matter which one you use.

I think they say PCM referring to the Wire coming from the Connector under the Dash Connections with the Engine Harness.

Oh I understand they were still talking about tapping into a wire, I just don't see why the few responses of don't use the coil. I've always used the coil, I've also heard that you get a more accurate reading from there. I know my autometer reads about 250rpm lower, same number that comes up if I have a snapon scanner hooked to the car..... I wouldn't doubt if the factory unit is off, so why use the same wire?

Anyone else have a something like the snapon scanner hooked up, and see that its reading lower than whats on the dash? Ah well, one of those strange topics that sure to raise arguments.

These Cars have a direct Signal output from the PCM..not like the old stuff that you had to hook to the Coil. It makes things a little easier IMO..just as accurate as well.

I agree, its just like the tach connector on an MSD or Mallory box, so it make sence going off the PCM.

As for a stock tach being off, the factory does this so as to not tear up the engine or even blow it up, so they calibrate the tach to be 2-300 RPM higher then what the engine is turning, they have been doing this for years.
