Default Smell of gas from my LT1

When I start my 95 LT1 after sitting for a few hours I will get a smell of gas. If i rev it as will I will get a smell of gas. Exhaust is stock besides a cat back and I did a fuel pump in it but one thing I am pretty sure of it has the original plugs and wires in it. I am going to change them for obvious reasons but was wondering if I should check anything in specific to the gas problem. I only smell it on start up and if I rev it at a stop. No fuel leaks under the hood

Fuel filter? Or possibly the gasket the goes around the sending unit in the tank.

Fuel filter is good, new and does not leak. The gasket around the tank is new as well and nothing there. The smell comes out of the exhaust I should have stated that before

It's always going to smell like gas at start up. It has to run real rich.
But if you think it's worse than normal, I would check out the cats. Or have you checked the EVAP canister? Those usually fill up with gas if you over fill the gas tank.

If you have a FP gauge would be worth checking the pressure after priming (ign off-to-on) with engine not running and see if it's bleeding down through a leaking injector. If she's running original (13 year old) plugs and wires you just may have a fouled plug or crappy wire not firing at start up causing raw fuel to hit the exaust.

odds are that it is just your car burning a little rich...alot of our cars do it and that smell is normal...do the fp test and make sure its running between 40-50 and isnt fluxuating pressures..

Can you explain this a little better or provide a picture of exactly what your talking about because i noticed i have a small leak on the drivers side where the fuel line goes back to the back of the motor and connects with a big black rubber pieces into the fuel rail.

thanks!

pretty common. It may have something to do with your fuel pump tho?

If you're getting the smell of raw fuel then it is in no way normal. Since you've done a fuel pump you need to double check all your lines to make sure they are not broken/cracked. Could be the tank vent as well or maybe even an EVAP problem.

It could also be an o2. I know my car with the bosch o2's in it was running waaaay rich. Switched to AC delco's and tada, it didnt smell like a race car anymore. I was almost sad.

I had a buddy pick them up on discount for 54$ a sensor. I think the dealership wanted something like 94$ for them strait up. Thats ridiculous. I think gmpartsdirect is about 60$ without looking.
