Default Question on lines for ls1 brake upgrade

Ok, I'm in the middle of doing this upgrade now. Everything I had ever read on this said you could use either the LT1 or LS1 lines. Well as it turns out, neither will work! lol

Both of them are too short to reach where the hard line is mounted. Some people said they bent the hard line out to reach but I don't feel comfortable doing that.

Some people said they used C5 brake lines which are longer and you don't have to bend the hard line with those. I tried to get some but no parts store has them and the dealerships are closed today. Anyone know what I would expect to pay for these at a dealership? Or is there another solution that I have missed? thanks

i used the LT1 lines. they stretch a little, but they are holding up

make sure you have the LT1 line coming up to the top of the caliper it should reach no problem.

If you are willing to accept the lines stretching on a full turn they might work. I would rather not do that. Stretching the lines can weaken them and I'm not cutting corners when it comes to brakes.

I bent the hardlines. That line is made with the intention to be bent. It will be fine. Just do it!

not really stretching, its more like it gets tight. but there is still slack when on full hard over.

Maybe your stock lines were longer than mine or something but that's not how it's looking for me.

how did you bend it? pliers? and where at? I was worried about applying pressure at the wrong place and breaking it or putting a kink in it. That line is incredibly rigid.

I am using the LT1 lines. I have the LS1 lines but decided that I would rather take the LS1 lines and have them done with SS by a local shop here and then use them. This way he could make them a little longer and they would be worth the time. Mine do get tight all the way over but they do have alittle play still so for now they are fine.

As for the bend I wish you could get your camera to focus I want to know what you did to the mount did you flip it around?

yeah I didn't want to modify the hard line or the mount.

I ordered some ss c5 lines. we'll see how those work.

So did the SS C5 lines work? Did you have to modify anything else or get other parts? If the SS C5 lines worked, where can you buy them? Pictures?

I did the LT1 to LS1 brakes and noticed the lines are tight, even before turning.

Thanks

Hey:

Summit for C5 SS lines, or Russell DOT C5 SS lines.

I used a LS1 camaro J65 SS DOT kit, from Goodridge.

Just to close this thread up.
I purchased Russell Performance C5 SS Brake lines part number 692190.
They fit great, a little pricey though, when you buy the whole front LS1 Brake kit for $200, but well worth it since the LT1 lines would be stretched every time you turn.

ok, bringing this back from beyond the grave yet again! That russell kit from summit...does it cover ALL FOUR brakes?

I am converting my LT1 to LS1 all the way around and I know I need longer on all sides...will this suffice for the rears as well as the fronts??

I didn't either and SS lines work just fine. Just screwed them on and done.

i just used my lt1 lines, worked perfect, seems like I had plenty of slack and nothing was tight or stretching. of course I didn't use the bolt spots for the lines to be secure.
