I'm putting these heads on the car this winter. Any tips as to things I could have a heads up on as far as install tips or things in the way of parts?

I have a 58mm thrt bod, new 36 injectors are on order, and long tubes. Oh and most important 1/4 times and power #'s....

There is lots of little stuff. Just talk to AI and let them tell you the list of suggested parts. Dont forget your tune.

The M6 is rough on the 7.5", automatics hit it with less shock so they can get away with a lot more power before breaking the 7.5".

A friend with an f-body and a good bit less power than my outdatd 190cc package had axle troubles almost immediately upon installing an M6 in the car and that was on street tires. My guess is he let the wheels hop a bit at some point. Fact remains though that the shock of a manual breaks the 7.5".

Why do you say that?

As far as the AI 200 setup, if you do a search, you'll find all the answers your looking for.

He is talking about the axle and from what I have seen is dead on. Like I said it just does not handle shock loads well.

I had a spec 4 and was on ET streets with my 6spd. With my 190cc heads/cam setup I made it about 4 passes before breaking things.

On my last pass with the 6spd I rev'd to 3500 and side stepped the clutch. I broke the rear end (blew the posi apart), broke the driveshaft yolk and snapped the output shaft on the t56.

Mine is a pretty extreme example of what can happen, but big power and a sticky clutch/tires will break things. Look at Alek's solid roller 355, he has broken 3 12-bolt ring gears while launching off the limiter.

if you have a stock bottom end i wouldnt advise you to go with this! and you probably need to upgrade to like a 3:73 to 4:10 gears with a 12 bolt or possibly a 9"....your also going to want to upgrade your clutch ad put a short throw in there...as far as this kit goes i wouldnt do it with a stock bottom end... go with the mid kit....and LE is cheaper btw...

It will be fine on a stock bottom end. There are people who have successfully done it, and there will be people who continue to do it.

I agree, the stock bottom end easily handles 400rwhp H/C cars.
Actually, many stack a 100 or 125 shot on top of that and still do just fine.

The frustration and limitation of the stock bottom end is the inability to handle higher RPM.
Many H/C car owners find out the hard way that spinning to 6800 rpm to make
better use of the power available is a great to way to spin a bearing.

and you dont think that this kit isnt gonna want more than 5500 rmps???? your gonna spin a bearing and those who have done this to a stock bottom end are more than likely eventually gonna lose their bottom end...this is a high rpm setup and do what you want but ill tell you LE will even frown upon this...

That is specifically why I am making the statement.
Even my little 22x/23x cam peaked up above 6200rpm.
It worked great, but I could have got so much more with a 355 or at the very least, arp bolts to keep the bearings in place.

I don't see which cam the OP selected, but I'm sure AI will give him suitable advice and assistance in his selection.

"Any tips as to things I could have a heads up on as far as install tips or things in the way of parts?"

Two things:

1: Cometic MLS head gaskets, AI will tell you which one.

2: Head studs. Better clamping force. You'll be making up the torque with fine threaded nuts instead of turning course threaded bolts in the block deck. PITA installing them with the engine in the car but worth the effort. Not so expensive insurance for a better engine.

Do these things and you'll probably never have a blown head gasket.

What are you talking about??
I pretty much keep mine below 6500rpm.

Of course they can put tgether something to spin to 7000 but they are not going to for a stock shortblock.

no i garuntee your spinning to about 6800.. and for a stock short block you really shouldnt be spinning 6500 or even 6000, that is just straight up stupid...your gonna lose your motor thats for sure and dont say you wont because alot of guys arent so lucky even spinning to 5500 so goodluck with your stocker bottom end..i would advise you to upgrade

You must be on crack dude. It spins higher than 5500 stock All kinds of people have been spinning them to 6800 for periods of time with no issues. For the most part, the only ones that have issues are the ones that were not well maintained. The stock bottom end is not too shabby.

your right the bottom end isnt too shabby at all, but your playing games with your car once your moving it over 5500...you shouldnt run any gm v8 over 6000, LE will tell you not to do it and he will frown upon it....this kit is just like the LE3 kit and i have a 355 and LE still advised me and will advise others not to run this with a stock bottom end....also what cam is the guy using??
