Default Pulled my trans, clutch, flywheel, have some clutch and oil/seal questions.

It was time to replace my chattery clutch today, that had never stopped chattering since I installed it. We never had resurfaced the flywheel the first time around, and that was my mistake. I will now get the flywheel resurfaced or just buy a new one if needed. I bought a new clutch disc to install and I figured the disc was worn down, but now I have noticed my pressure plate has a lot of hotspots in it, although it still feels smooth aside for a couple nicks in it.. The flywheel doesn't look too pretty either.

My questions are:

Will this pressure plate still work or would it need to be replaced? I have read you should not resurface a pressure plate.

Where do yall see the main cause of an oil leak. I just recently switched to synthetic and it has been leaking ever since, but I plan to go back to the conventional oil next oil change. But where exactly does it look like my oil is leaking from?

looks like most of the oil is coming from the rear of the intake. i would replace the pp and t/o with the new disc...maybe even the pilot bearing.

^^X2

I had a leak from the intake bad fixed it 3 times and got pissed. Took some sandpaper from rough to smooth and sanded both the intake and block in that area to make sure it was as flat as I could get it. havent had a leak from it since.

Thanks for posting that last picture, I think by looking at your thread I now have my question answered. I take it with the shift fork like that you can then slide the trans onto the bellhousing, and then you slide the shift fork over the throwout bearing? I didn't realize you could pull the shift fork back like that, as I'm trying to stick mine back together and have been a little perplexed on how it all goes back together.

Yeah, theres a little pin with 2 small pressure pins that hold the fork into place, pry up those pins and then wiggle/jerk/pull the fork out while pullin on the tranny too. Took us like 20 minutes just to pull the fork back.

Any ideas on the pressure plate, guys?

Well i took my pressure plate and flywheel to get it looked at and the flywheel resurfaced today. We found the pressure plate was dished, it was a little lower towards the inner ring of the pressure plate. and the flywheel was horrible. We discussed cutting a tiny layer off the pressure plate and adjusting some of the straps. We determined one of the straps on the pressure plate was too high causing a high spot in the pressure plate on the top side where all the dark blotches are.

For $75 i got my flywheel and pressure plate resurfaced. I was nervous about getting the plate cut because of what i've read about it, but i was impressed. He said they only cut .007" off the top of the plate, but everything looks great. I installed it today and it feels good, I will just wait and see when it breaks in.

Well, FRAM is all i've ever used, don't see any problems with using it.

Anyone else resurface a pressure plate before?
