Default need advice on buying an lt1

my friend is selling his 94 lt1 a4 for 2500 he is trying to buy a truck and wants to get rid of his car,

pros- pacesetter long tubes, chip, K&N CAI, good price 96 thousand miles

cons- he hit a gaurd rail on the passenger side and has replaced all body parts except he hasnt had it painted, the transmission also has a problem with it, every time he puts it WOT in second gear it shifts down and just bounces off the rev limmiter?

what do u guys thinK? is it a good deal?

and if anyone has had a similar problem with an A4 doing that advice would be apreciated.

thanx for reading kinda long tho sry

IMHO take the 2500 and buy headers, y pipe, and a ls6 intake for that 2000z in your sig.

If you're buying for a DD, i'd do it. Keep the miles off the LS1, if not, i'd look away quickly. The trans will be fine if you stop hammering on it.

A lot of people will rag on the lt1 more than is necessary. yes, the ls1 is a better engine, looking at your sig you know that of course, but for that price you could have a good DD or fix it up for a drag only...OR you could get more mods for your ls1 too. the lt1 is not a bad way to go and only needs a few boltons to really wake it up and have it keeping up with stock or slightly modifed ls1s. peace.

LT1s are nice. Just seems like its more of a headache than its worth. Sounds like you're buying an expensive paint job and tranny fix. I would spend it on the LS1.

The LT1 is a pretty sweet engine. Biggest downfall is the stock POS exhaust manifolds. Going to LT's and an O/R Y will yield close to 30rwhp.

I say buy it

To me the biggest prob with an LT1 is POS optispark. The rear plugs are a MAJOR PIA to change too

Getting harder and harder to find nice LT1's for a decent price, for the small price difference your better off getting an early LS1

The LS pretty much covers all the problems that the LT had. That's why I got one.

The Opti < crap - The shaft driven water pump < crap - spart plug placement < wtf? - plug wire replacement < I rather get kicked in the sack

There are a few other minor things, but that covers the most annoying ones.

yea for 2500 i would say tell him 1750 cash and its a deal and then it might be worth it, cause what if you have to end up dumping 1500 into the tranny then your sitting at 3250, which is what a car like that would go for in complete working order, not to mention the side's arent even painted. and with 96k mile that is still fairly low for a 94.
