Default Reverse lockout problems. *UPDATE*

I know it's screwing up because my friend said that he saw my reverse lights come on on the highway.

Sometimes it let's me into reverse when I am driving and I grind gears. You Guys think my solenoid is bad or my computer? Just did an ls7 clutch a few weeks ago and I am woundering if my connection is bad. It did this before I changed the clutch as well.

I know my post my be comfusing sorry for that.

**UPDATE**

So I noticed now when driving on at any speed it will let me into the reverse slot. (like the solenoid doesn't even work) I don't push it into gear obviously.
Im gonna go ahead and start checking circuits here tomorrow.

Thoughts? I also have a question and I am going to have to take a picture to describe it to you guys so I will get that up tomorrow.

To my knowledge the Computer has to send the Signal to it to let you be able to get into reverse, so maybe you have a short in the Ground wire, and it's making contact with something metal and grounding out.

All the Computer does it ground out the Circuit and complete it, allowing the Solenoid to open and let you get into Reverse. As soon as you turn the Key on, the Solenoid should open. Normally it should be closed.

No, what happens normally is the computer allows the solenoid to fire below 5MPH or so and make the revese gate easier to get. Above that point the power is not supplied and reverse is harder to get BUT it is still possible to enter the reverse gate. Thats why its called an inhibitor and NOT a lock out. It sounds like you are spanking the reverse gate with an over travel. The good news is that you only had a grind of the reverse clutch teeth and did not actually get reverse. This is only going to be fixed with an operator mod.

Im honestly not. I just push straight forward out of sixth and into 5th. Sometimes it lets me into reverse and most of the time it will go to 5th.

Whats weird is that when my key is off it will go into reverse but with my friends car it will not let you into reverse with the key off.

Sounds like your Solenoids worn out then..

Ar far as getting into Reverse, try guiding the Shifter up next time with your palm instead of putting it where you think 5th would be and see what it does. It should go right into 5th..

I do push straight up. You can feel it slip by the solenoid and go into fifth when it works properly.

If the fuse was blown wouldn't that mean it wouldn't work at all? Because it works most of the time.

I haven't yet. You said that solved your problem. How would a new fuse solve mine? Mine works most of the time. If the fuse was blown there would be an open in that circuit and it would not work at all.

true but the way mine was it made it extremely hard to get into reverse when first started and after that it worked perfectly fine and if your fuse was blown it should have been doing the same thing

Mine is not hard at all to get it into reverse. Its quite hard to get in there when it is working but on the occasion when it doesn't its really easy to screw up.

What color is the solenoid plug? If you installed a skip solenoid where the revrese inhibitor goes you would get oposite operation because the solenoids are oposite acting. That is the skip solenoid fires / extends with power & the reverse retracts/ releases with power.
If you switched these , reverse would have reduced load except when it got the 12V signal. This is true only if you swapped the solenoids not just the wiring.Swapping the wiring will get a different set of probs.
Reverse has a black plug/ skip has a white plug. Also ,the harness plugs should have black & white coloring.

^^I don't see how someone could get them backwards.. the connectors are 2 different lengths, the CAGS one doesn't reach the Reverse Lockout.

So I found my problem. The return spring was not strong enough to push the plunger back out when the circuit was activated. Sprayed some electronics cleaning solution in the solenoid and it returns now with no problem. It must have been some gunk building up inside and was causing it to stick.
