Default Reverse Thrust Washer

Doing a rebuild. Got to reverse and the assembly sheet shows a pic of two thrust washers on the reverse shaft. I know for a fact that my trans did not have either of these thrust washers. Is there a difference in some T56s? Or do i just need to give the gear box. org a ring?

Depending on the model T56, there were 2 , one or none used. Go with what was orig in your box.

Are you referring to the reverse driven gear (on the mainshaft), or the rev idler gear mounted in the tail housing?

Its the reverse idler gear . If the assembled gear with the 3-bolt cover plate installed has too much end play , that will tell you a washer is missing. It should spin freely but not slap back and forth. Those washers are pretty thick so you will know if one is needed.

Its the rev. idler gear in the tail housing. There is barely any play so Im pretty sure a washer couldnt go in there. I know I didnt drop one. Stupid directions made me second guess myself . Now in all my re-taking apart I forgot which way the gear goes back in. I take it the identification groove goes toward the front of the trans like everything else with a groove?

Its always a good idea to the gears in the same way but this one can go in either way and it doesn't maka a difference.
