Default 1st gear popping out after rear main seal was replaced

Ok I never had a problem with 1st gear popping out. All of a sudden I got my rear main seal replaced and had to bring it back because it was still leaking and worse. Well NOW I pick it up and 1st gear is popping out!

I thought throw out bearing, but I called the mechanic and he's like no, no way I did the install myself. Im getting tired of bringing this thing back to the same guy for an oil leak originally.

What could he have messed up that it would be now popping out of first?

Check to see it the shiftter is contacting the console underneath the shift boot. Sometimes the relationship (console to transmission) gets changed enough to cause the shifter to contact the console before it goes all the way into gear. This can result in it poppong out of gear. Also, if you have adjustable stops on the transmission, I'd check to see if those are set too close to the shifter.

If you continue to have a leak after changing the rear seal , chances are the rear bushing needs to be replaced as well .

Either way , the leak has nothing to do with it popping out of 1st gear .

I know the leak has nothing to do with the transmission, it was leaking out of the motor. All I was saying is that the they needed to remove the transmission and therefore could have messed something up during the reinstallation. I brought it back today and they said that they could have installed some plate backwards. It appears to be fixed for now, the removed the center console and removed the shifter and flipped something around and it seems ok now.
