lt1 to ls1 conversion

Default lt1 to ls1 conversion

I am converting a t56 from an lt1 to go behind an ls1, I have changed the bellhousing and ordered my new input shaft, however on the lt1 there is a sleve that partially covers the input shaft and I dont see that on the t56 for the ls1, do I need to remove this so that my hydraulic throwout bearing will work

You need the LS1 front plate also. TUEP2290 is the tremec p/n. I just paid $170 for one from a non-sponsor, shop around. There's a few posts about this on here also, search for additional info about shimming, etc..

Thanks for the info, I bought my input shaft from gear box and they said i didnt need to replace the front cover. I am very new to these 6 speeds and dont want to screw up anything, they told me to have my existing bearing pressed on to my new shaft and that shimming probably wouldnt be neccessary but the they did tell me how to detemine if it needed shimming. I was wandering if i couldnt just cut that sleeve fluxh with the front cover. any ideas?

The LT1 front plate does not have any provisions for mounting an OEM LS1 slave cyl. If you plan on using the LS1 hyd slave, you'll need to change the front plate. If you're using an aftermarket bellhousing and TOB, you may be able to use your existing setup. The vendor may have assumed you were putting the trans behind a standard SBC/BBC motor.

I am usng an aftermarket slvecylinder from classic chevy for this situation (56 belair) it came wit hthe slave cylinder that mounts under the das as well as wit ha throwout bearing that just rides on the input shaft with 2 lines one that runs through the firewall to the hydraulic slve cylinder and one line that just comes out of the bell housing with the bleeder valve. Sorry to sound so ignorant about this butall of the cars we have built have always been old school sbc and this is my personal car so wanted something different with the ls1 and six speed

Ok, it all depends on your bellhousing/clutch/TOB/slave setup. Some aftermarket slaves will ride right on the LT1 sleeve, others mount on the T56 adaptor plate and you have to cut off the LT1 sleeve..

Mike, After thinking about it and the info you gave me I think it would be best to change the front cover and use the oem ls throw out bearing. after talking to a tech at classic chevy I can use my entire plumbing system and hook to the stock throw out bearing which I feel will make it much mor simple in the future when ervice is required that I am not trying to locate mi matched parts. Thanks for your advice I feel better about the whole situation now. Can you geve me a vender name where I can purchase a new front cover
