Question G.T.O t-56 swap

What would be the "weak link" in this trans?I am putting it behind a 496 inch motor and want to spend my hard earned money wisely.Viper output? It seems everyone has a different opinion.Any trans savy guys have any input? The trans has 800 miles on it.

Really depends on how you'll use it.. The output shaft should only be a problem with very heavy cars, or those doing high-hp clutch dumps on slicks. The tight ratio might be an inconvenience on the high-hp motor, unless you're putting it into a heavy car.

Is the "800 miles" new from the factory, or after a rebuild? The most common failures from stock are synchro keys and fork pads after some hard passes.

If it's coming out of a GTO, it's a wider ratio, right?

That's correct, the GTO is a wide-ratio.. My brainfart... The intent was still the same.

Default Thanks

It is going in a all steel camaro. Was going to be a race car but I've had the thing so long my taste has changed. Now I want a nice reliable big block car that I can drive places. No big slicks or 6000 rpm clutch drops.I am running 255-60-15 street tires.I pulled the roller cam and big carb and am running a cam that makes 500 H.P.The trans was new not rebuilt(out of a wreck). If you think it will live behind this motor,I will leave it alone. It will see the track once or twice a year. Thanks for all the input.

I would say it will hold up fine as long as you don't beat the hell out of it .
