Default ls7 clutch disc broken springs

sup yalls i just got a ls7 clutch from a friend and when i was getting ready to install it i flipped it over to put it up on the flywheel and i heard something rattle. if your lookin at the disc you have the 4 large springs in a cross pattern. and inside them there's a smaller spring. 2 of them are loose and slide from one side to the other ( they are directly across from each other on the disc) what would cause this? and what will this effect?

i talked to a friend here and he says he wouldnt run it, i trust his word and his judgement as he has alot more experience with clutches then i do. just wanted some more opinions. thanks

Scottie, I found you.

The springs you are talking about are the takeup springs. On a street clutch the springs dampen the clutch plate so you don't get chatter when you release the clutch. Race discs often times have a solid hub without the springs. On the street a race clutch like this would be very chattery when you tried to slip it to take off.

A little looseness of the inner spring on a double setup is NORMAL. Put it in and go. It's fine unless the springs are broken or missing.

so a question for teh guys that have run them with the springs collapsed... does it chatter (like audibly rattling) at any point during driving?

The above poster's springs were more than a little loose, they were completely collapsed. I have never seen this on a clutch before and therefore suggested against installing it as the LS7 friction disc that he had in the car currently didn't even have loose springs with 40k plus.
