Default Is there permanent damage?

I have a 2000 ws6 m6, with a stock clutch and a few bolt ons. So a while back I was out and stopped to do a burnout(powerbrake not a launch) and I dont know if I didnt have enough rpm or what, but when I let the clutch out only the passenger side tire spun and and I burnt up the clutch pretty bad. Afterwards I had trouble getting into the gears and ended up flushing the clutch fluid and bleeded the lines. Now shifting is smooth again and seem to have no problems, but taking off is kind of shaky and I constantly smell the clutch burning... Could I have done some real damage to the clutch and it is just slipping? Is there a way to test it without pulling it out of the car? I just can't tell because it seems to drive well...

Well I don't know how you burnt your clutch from just having one wheel spinning...but anyway...

If the clutch chatters on takeoff and often smells like burning, chances are its on its way out. Nothing you can really do except replace it before it bites the dust or wait for it to quit completely.

However, if its giving you gear clash when shifting or not letting you into gear, change it before it ruins the synchros in your transmission, because thats an even costlier expense to have your trans overhauled.

Sounds like a worn out differential to me...

The Limited Slip clutches (in the differential) are worn out and not transferring power to both wheels.

Mine is probably worn out too, but I stopped doing burnouts a long time ago as I need this car to last until I finish school.

Well the clutch is only about a year old and I don't really drive the car often and hardly ever drive it hard... that is the first or second burnout I have done on this clutch. Are there any clutches anyone would recommend for my setup? (I mean, I don't think the stock ones will hold up for long as I am putting my cam and heads in soon.) But thanks guys!

I would think it has something to do with the rear end also. I don't think the clutch has anything to do with only one tires spinning...

Nope, it doesn't...

OP - Please clarify what you are referring to - is the actual clutch itself slipping, or are you just talking about the rear diff only spinning one tire??

Well I can definitely smell the clutch burning but I dont know if the clutch is bad or if something wrong in the rearend is causing the clutch to slip... And are there any ideas as to why only one wheel would be getting power?

One tire burnouts are the easiest way to wipe out your differential. Does the rearend pop when you turn or make any noises?

No there are not real signs that the rearend is bad except the one wheel burnout. If i jacked the rear of the car off the ground and put it in gear, and if both tires spin does that mean that the differential is okay? or does it need some resistance on applied to the tires to really check it?

Both tires will always spin when they are off the ground.

When there is a load though, the tire with the least resistance will always spin. Sounds like you need a new differential.

hey thanks man but the reason i was burning out in the first place was to get rid of some old tires, and actually the passenger side tire that had spun was worn down quite a bit more than the driver's that didnt... so could there be a chance that my rearend is dogshit?

There are multiple components to the rear end, its not just all one unit. Your rear end isn't condemned, the ring & pinion and bearings are probably fine.

The component that affects wheelspin and torque proportioning is the differential, which is attached to the ring gear. If it goes bad, it will cause you to one spin one wheel under hard acceleration, or while doing a burnout. The differential unit itself can be changed out and replaced with a new one to correct the issue. They nice Detroit TruTrac replacement diff goes for about $400, which is very reasonable.

Alright man but do you think that one side having less tread could lead to one tire spinning? (In the case that the rearend is fine?)
