Default ls1 and lt1 bellhousing the same?

can you swap a stock t56 from a 94-lt1 into a 99 ls1? I know GM changed the t56 in 98 and had it made in mexico, but does the ls1 share the same bellhousing as the lt1? the reason Im asking, I have a 99 ls1 automatic, and Even though I herd the automatics can handle more then the t56, its just not as fun to drive! I have a chance to get a good used t56 from a 94 trans am, for under $1000 complete, with everything I will need to do the swap. but I need to make sure it will work with the gen III blocks

thanks

The LT1 style T56 & Bell Housing will NOT work with the Gen III Engines..the LT1 style is a pull-type setup, the Gen III's are a push-type setup. You will need a Gen III T56 & Bell Housing for what you want to do.

I just finished up this swap, parts you need:

LS1 input shaft
LS1 Bellhousing
LS1 Midplate
LS1 Hydraulics

You can buy new, or used.

New:
Input $200
Bellhousing $300
Midplate $200

Or used like I did:

Input AND midplate $100
Mcleod SFI bell $224

Sold my LT1 input for $100
Sold bell, midplate and hydraulics for $85

Do the math, and I am in the conversion for @ $160 is all

Oh sorry, forgot teh hydraulics:

Slave came with my clutch for an extra $70
MC, I bought teh Tick adjustable on teh GP for $300 (you don't HAVE to buy the more expensive MC like I did though.
