Default 5th/6th gear puller?

What are you guys using? Is there a reasonably priced puller out there or are you making something? Are you buying the J-tool? I'd hate to do that since they seem to be around $480 plus shipping.

Let me know what you got, any info appreciated.

i just used a 2 prong puller, 15" or so and i forget how many tons but it worked great, it was like $90 too

Hey man, where did you get that puller? ScreaminRedZ is my brother (lookin for the tool so we can rebuild my trans) but I think he was having trouble finding one that long. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks a ton! This will make the job much easier, lol. Now I just have to order the press they sell in the Summit tool catalog

One more question. Where did you guys buy the split plates to remove the 2nd speed gear, etc.?

most of the speed gears will just slide off once you remove the snap rings, so make sure you go buy some good snap ring pliers from sears or somewhere. the only things you'll really have to press off are the sliders, just a regular bearing puller/split plate will work

Yeah, I know the gears themselves will slide off, but I believe that the split plate presses on the gear, which in turn presses on the synchros, etc, and presses them off. Where do you guys pick up the split plates for a reasonable price? Snap-On wants like $250+ for them (not that that suprises me).

Well at least Ron will have the tools for future rebuilds and we all know one of us is going to frag the trans again lol.

Ron you should get biz cards for a side jobs and hand them out at the turn pike.

LOL, that would most likely be impossible since it would have to be payed for before picking up the trans after the rebuild.

Good Lord I forgot about that, took him 6 months to pay for a 150$ set of Pacesetter Shorties..... Also the car he is building would never actually run and be parted out.

Haha, oh man....Mark Rainville....

But on the other side of things, all it will take is a few rebuilds and the tools will be paid for.

Anyways, hopefully between the new Tick master on its way and the measurement sticky I just read to find out if I should be shimming this clutch, I can avoid future issues (at least more than regular future issues since we are talking about a T56 here).

Personally Joe I dont think you will need measure to but let me know either way. This weekend I hop to have my seats back in the car and the panels for under the dash put back in.

I've been getting the itch to drive and if the weather is going to continue this up turn, its time for the car to get on the road

That's what I'm talkin about. Get that car up and running so we can start cruising when I finish mine.

While I've got everything out and apart, I might as well measure just for the hell of it. It will literally take about 5 minutes since it's all out of the car already, no reason not to. Plus I'm just curious. With all of the trans/clutch issues I've had over the past two years, I get very curious when I get new information/tests to try out.

Yea, its gotta get a nice coat of wax as soon as it's dry and of decent temps on the nose and hood. I want it looking mint for the year.

Definitely. I'm thinking while my trans is out, I want to do a full detailing on the inside of the car. I also need to replace the front passenger speaker wire because it's crackling like crazy. Down time is a great time to get this stuff done. If the exterior was washed, I'd claybar and wax it for this year, also, but it's dirty as hell.

To be honest, the biggest thing I'm looking forward to is getting the car back on the road so I can install the cutout. I can't wait to see how it sounds and if it picks up any power.
