Default T 56 Removal Question??

how are you guys getting to the top bolt that connects bellhousing to motor? the one between the firewall and the back of the motor.

Are you coming from the engine bay or from underneath?

Have to do it from underneath using about 2-2.5 feet of extensions (from the back of the transmission).

From underneath. Let the engine lean back as far as possible. You do have the tranny off correct?

Yeah like they said..underneath and with a jack, let tail of it drop way down. I used a 3-4 ft extension and a swivel. Had the ratchet back by the tail shaft..lol That extension is the key. I borrowed it from a mechanic friend of mine...or 15 various ones you've peiced together should work

I personally would drain the trans first, it makes things a little cleaner. Drop the *** end of the trans down, after unbolting the trans crossmember, and i personally remove the trans from the bellhousing first. Then the bellhousing bolts are quite a bit easier to get to.

Once you remove the tranny, it should be a piece of cake..... You are talking about this one right?

so you're saying remove the tranny from the bellhousing, then remove the bellhousing from the motor?

I was thinking of just removing the tranny and bellhousing as a whole unit.

If you cant get the extensions needed to pull the whole thing then yes it would be easier for you. But the first time i pulled my trans...the bell housing was a bitch to get off. Leaving it attached provides leverage

I had to use a 1/4 socket with 1/4 swivel to have enough room to get it out and back in. the 3/8 was hitting too much.

Ive always found it easier to remove the tranny and then the bellhousing. Try it and youll see why. Before you put it back together, be sure to put some antisieze on the pilot studs on both the bellhousing and tranny. Makes it easier to take off the next time.
