I wonder if 9 second ETs made it do that.

I hope it's nothing serious man... I'm subscribing to find out the cause in case I have the same issue after my trip to track in a couple of weeks...

Is the trans still stock? If it whines in 4th and 5th, and not in any other gear, it's odd since almost nothing is unique to 4&5.

Probably won't know for sure until you tear into it, so anything you get here will be pure speculation.

If its whining in 4th gear , you might be hearing the diff instead .

Try it on a lift, disconnect the DS and put something to try to keep the fluid in and try that. Should eliminate Diff noise.

Sounds like a Pilot bearing or a beaing on the inside of the case.

Its not the pilot bearing . That makes noise in between shifts . If its a bearing , which I doubt , it would have to be the output shaft bearing , once again which I doubt .

I would double verify that it is making noise in 4th gear .

you have a built trans right? Is it a Viper shaft conversion? My Viper shafted tranny whines a little bit too after being "broken in" in two cars over the last couple years

How are you so sure it's the transmission? I would second that it's most likely your rear. The noise transfer almost always makes it sound like the rear whine is coming from the transmission. Mine is EXACTLY the same way. Stick anyone in my car who doesn't know about the whine you experience from these rears and they'd probably insist that my transmission is about the explode. It did it ever since I got the rear on the stock trans, with the new transmission, and still does it exactly the same after I just rebuilt my MN12 transmission about two weeks ago.

It also only does it at certain speeds and in certain gears. It's much louder cruising in fifth at XX mph than in, say, second or third cruising at XX mph. It's all about harmonics.

All that said, I am curious as to how you know it's coming from the trans.

Could be the input shaft bearing, or the countershaft bearings, starting to go bad. Do you know what shim specs were done during your last rebuild?

Are you planning on dropping/opening the trans, or going to run it until it breaks?
