Default Clutch for Drifting Abuse

Clutch for Drifting Abuse - how about a quick debate on this, i hope some people with knowledge could chime in.

Drifting - we often use "Clutch kicks" multiple times per run, involves driving at speed (can be from slow to 100+) and pushing the clutch pedal down, reving the engine and quickly releasing the clutch. This helps break traction so you can get the tires spinning.

I'd be interested to know if this kind of abuse has any clutches (or types) that are best suited.

I have a friend who uses a SPEC 3+ in his ls1 240sx (465 RWHP) and it has done well.

I'm about to order something for my car and was thinking about options.

Thanks,
James

I've got one of our Level 3's in a LS2 powered 240sx, he loves it and is very happy with it. Give me a call at the shop and we'll discuss some things.

Hey Z28, we have a number of people running both our Stage 3, Stage 4, and Stage 3+ in LS based applications used for Drifting. In fact, Gary Lang who contends a LS powered 240zx (and just so happens to work here at spec) uses our Stage 4. This unit will be lighter, as a result of its lack of a sprung hub, and very robust which makes it idea for clutch kicks and other commonly used Drift techniques. Let me know if you have any further questions. As a side note, if you are running series based events then you may be interested in applying for our Sponsorship. Just drop me an email and I will be happy to assist you. Thanks!

hey guys... im gonna mega bump this thread and wondered if anyone else had feed back on these clutches.. my quetion is exactly the same as the OP.. except i run and LS2 with about 400rwhp here in the UK..

On the cars first high speed entry since being built.. (BDC Round 1 donnington park UK) I shifted up from 3rd to 4th and then clutch kicked low 4th at about 90mph+ and destroyed center of the clutch i was running (wont name the brand)..

it instantly shattered the teeth that connect wiht the T56 spline/shaft.. brand new with only run-in road miles on it. Im mortified as this has financially screwed me.. so im having to borrow to buy a new one..

Therefor if im going that route I want to make sure i buy a clutch that can take the abuse! If anyone/company can help a LS1 drifter in the UK ASAP please let me know! Could be gret for a brand to break out into UK market

SO yeah, help and advice appreciated.

We've sponsored a few drift cars and have sold quite a few over the last year or so to guys who drift regularly. We can definetly get you taken care of with a clutch, give me a call and we'll do just that!

Take a look at this link and you'll find a couple of cars on there with videos, we sponsor a local customer that flat out beats on his 240 without any issues at all. http://monsterclutches.com/featured.html
