Default How to determine bad slave?

Ok, well since it was suggested to me in my previous posts about my clutch problems that the slave could be bad(even though it is new) and letting air in..how do I go about finding out if this is the case or not??

Any procedures/ideas would be great..Thanks!

hey sean are you able to engage and disengage the clutch easilly or is it like half way way engaged or disengaged. That sucks if its that cuz you dont have the external slave like me.

97--not sure exactly what you're asking?

the basic issue is the clutch seems to keep getting air in it. it slips REALLY bad, has inconsistent pedal feel, etc.

I tried bleeding it and the pedal feel came back but by the time i had the car on the ground again it was mush again..apparently full of air again, so something is up...

Had this problem in my 98 vette, and it's now showing up in my 2000 Z.
GM hydraulics are pure ***** before 2002. I went through 3 z06 slaves in my vette before I got one that worked. Go figure.
I guess it's just part of the development cycle.
Anyway, the camaro has gotten so bad that I can't get the pedal off the floor at 40k miles. And I do not drag race. In fact, I don't really drive it that hard.

Hydraulics are made by AP. The same guys that do AP racing.

I took both master and slave apart in order to find the problem. I never had leaking problems. Still couldn't find what the problem was.

The solution however, is to replace the slave and (if needed) master.

In your case, it sounds as if the short time after you bleed it and it goes to mush means that there is air getting into the system. Air in almost always means that fluid is coming out.

IT's a PITA, but I think you need a new slave. Shop around and you can get the latest version of the z06 slave for uner $100 shipped to your door.
Good luck

If it's anything like mine, it would be leaking all over the place. It would also not shift smoothly at high RPM's.

well, sounds like i need to contact the guy i got all this **** from and find out exactly what parts are in it. The trans was brand new from D&D, I wonder what slave they use, becuase that's what I would have obviously..

He claimed the master was brand new as well, and when I got it I had no trouble believing that, I did the drill mod and all that to it.

I'm going to replace the clutch regardless with a Spec 3 hopefully soon..guess I'll see about replacing the slave as long as I have the trans off to be sure..

this is one big pita..car is away for winter but i hate doing **** over, especially pulling a trans and clutch out..

Well, I wouldn't really know. My car was a mid 12 second hotcam only car on nittos, but was bone stock tranny wise including clutch, etc.. then I really built it up and went TH400 for a year and now I'm back to M6 with the good parts. I never had any high rpm grinding issues back when it was M6 before and the one time i hit the track with the new combo it was a pretty big cluster **** due to this clutch problem..I had to shift it real slow or the car wouldn't take any gears..very happy with the D&D trans so far, but the clutch wouldn't let me shift it fast that day..

just swapping a master out and doing the drill mod is pretty easy man..alot easier than having to drop the trans and change the clutch and all that... don't sweat it. Some good instructions over at www.installuniversity.com ..check those out, will help anyone that hasn't done it before.
