Default Engaging without pedal....

Installed new clutch.
Buttoned everything up.

Used my old slave (with 11K miles, updated version...will probably be replacing).
Bled system.

Pedal all the way down, put in 1st gear, and without releasing the pedal, the tires will start to spin.
Put it back in neutral, release pedal, move shifter towards first gear....and they start to spin there as well.

Is this a slave issue (current one got covered with oil)??
Or maybe it needs a different shim??

TIA!!

I would say get a tick performance master, new slave and a shim. Sounds like your slave is too far away from the pressure plate or its just dead. Its nice to have a master cylinder like ticks that you can adjust.

Not sure the clutch brand matters....but it is a 4+
Didn't measure, used supplied shim with new fly, PP, and disc.

That is NORMAL. How fast are they spinning? Put your foot on brake...what happens?

This confuses me a bit.

When the clutch pedal is in, shouldn't it NOT spin the tires? I know they would get going...
No idea about hitting the brake.
Pulling the tranny down this afternoon and putting a new slave up.

The wheels may move slowly(when off the ground) with the clutch pushed in or in neutral. Just did a clutch and all new components on my car and it did the same thing.

Yes it does matter especially if it's a Spec, Ram or some others.

Measuring is imperative unless it's a Monster clutch. Monster's are designed to not use a shim.
They test every unit for consistency and precision before they ship them out.

Why would anyone use an old slave with 11K on it ?

put it down on the ground and then try it before you start pulling it all apart again.

Yup.
Oh well....it ended up getting a new slave. Although it probably wasn't required

Got it taken care of tonight. After dropping the tranny 3-4 times.

Public Announcement....
ARP Pressure Plate bolts DO NOT fit the SPEC 4+ pressure plate.

I've been there before with the tranny juggling.
Never realized how much fun it could be.

What was the actual cause of the problem, the ARP flywheel bolts not fitting ?

Yup.
The outer lip of the bolts were actually blocking the disc from spinning freely. So the whole assembly was basicly one....nothing would disengage.

Wow this is good information.

Sorry to hear you had to go through all that hassle to figure that out.
It must be a good feeling to know you got your car running right again and figured out the problem.

Did you end up just using GM OEM flywheel bolts ?

Used the ARP flywheel bolts.
Used the supplied Pressure Plate bolts that SPEC sends with the clutch kit.

No, not neccessarily, especially with a new clutch. Now, if you hit the breaks, and the motor dies, then you have a problem. But, if tires are just slowly moving, that is perfectly normal.
