390RWHP on stock clutch?

Default 390RWHP on stock clutch?

how well will a stock 02 ls6 clutch handle a cam/bolt on car?

About 390 RWHP? Ive looked and hear differant things, but if anyone is still running their clutch and have around this hp could you please chime in?

Im just getting ready to put in an MTI X1 cam, ive got ORY, slp loudmouth, 25% ud pulley, 1"3/4 LT's, ported TB, LS6 intake, Ford 9" w/ 4.11's.

I see it making about 400hp on other 10 bolt cars, so i figure some drivetrain loss on mine.

I made 412 a long time ago on cam and bolt ons with that clutch. It worked fine.

I killed the LS1 clutch with stock power, the LS7 clutch on the other hand held up pretty nicely for 2 years for me.

I just replaced my clutch... It didnt like 400hp much... It really didnt like 400hp plus a 100shot.

I know the ls1 clutches aren't very good, the reason I'm asking is beacuse I have everything for the cam swap, and I have the ls7 clutch, just need a few hundred for a tune, if I sell the clutch I could get my tune

a low mileage 02 with ls6 clutch killed it on my friend's car with stock power. I wouldn't say the ls6 clutch holds up any better than the ls1 clutch.

i have 40k miles on my ls7 clutch with 413whp. I love it

Maybe ill keep it then.

You car runs an 11.6 with just bolt ons and a cam? How much does it weigh. What did you dyno at? What bolt ons do you have?

I'm going to be replacing my stock clutch it barely handles the car on my bolt ons setup - stock clutch = teh suck i bought a ram powergrip so we'll see how that handles the power . . . .i knew if i did my cam my clutch would slip and or explode. . .my lt1 clutch exploded and i promised myself i'd never have that happen again.

It's not only the clutch; the driver and hydraulics play a large part too. I'm guessing you'll be racing the car? My car had about 400HP and 70 1/8th miles passes on it. My first time down the 1/4 mile after I bought it the clutch was heating up bad and I was losing the pedal. When I took it out the disc looked fine but the flywheel had heat spots on it.

My stock cltutch held on for dear life at 395HP on Drag radials. It never sliped, but it would over heat at the end of the run and not come up off the floor once I put the car into neurtal at the end of the run. But it did allow me to shift every gear w/o a problem.

Lasted quite a long time this way...

That was not your clutch doing that...that was hydraulics related.

Firechicken, As much as I am sure that you hoped there would be a clear cut and dry answer to this questions I think it's becoming clear that there is a lot more to consider than just HP when it comes to clutch capacity. I wish that there was a cut and dry answer as it would make things much more simple.

Of course, it won't hurt you to keep the stock clutch in as long as it meets your needs and then when it doesn't you can buy a unit that is better suited to your planned output and usage. yea, that has to do with your master cylinder and slave cylinder, even if you change out your clutch and leave the stock slave and master it will still stick.

Exactly right, just saying how the clutch itself did not give up... Im sure it was not happy, and did not look like it was when it was finaly taken out. But the stock clutch did not fail.

i guess ill just save up a couple hundred and put the clutch in when i do the cam, probably be the best that way....

Clutch life is based mostly on your driving habits.... I drive my car like a granny, when I drive it, but when we go out and play around or do some race it I beat the **** out of it and fog it down. Full bolt ons, 4.10s and 100 dry was on it when my stock 01 clutch gave up. It eventually got to where it would slip for a couple of seconds on the motor. LOL. Your car will also feel alot stronger if you get a clutch that will hold and is not all beat up.
