By removing the pre-load bumps the mount can't be compressed/pre-loaded by the pre-load plate, so that means the mount won't be as stiff because it's not pre-compressed/loaded. It'll still be stronger and stiffer than the stock mount but without all the transfer of vibration and noise into the interior of the car if you install the ES trans mount unmodified.
Also you don't need a poly mount, but it is better than the stock mount.

Your noise that sounds like PCV valve maybe the shifter itself not all the way tight "****" or if you didn't put any RTV on the base plate of the shifter.. Just something to keep in mind..

ok thanks, yeah the tranny was out when the vette doctors installed my new motor and K-member
