Flywheel shim vs slave shim

I haven't determined if I need a shim yet or not for my clutch setup because I haven't been motivated to take the trans back out again, but I got to thinking and researching just incase I do need a shim I was looking at prices on them. Speed inc has a slave shim for $15, but its $9 to ship DOH!
Seems kinda high for something that could probably be put in an envelope with a stamp.. But whatever.. So I started looking at local options. Oreilley has flywheel shims in .025 and .050 for $18. So since it would be more cost effective to buy the flywheel shim, is there any disadvantage to using a flywheel shim to using a slave shim? Either way, it reduces the gap difference right? Or am I missing something here?

Well, you can also buy our .115" shim, which is included in all of our LS based clutch kits, and that is to be installed behind the slave cylinder for $5 plus shipping. It's just a thought...but me know what you decide and I will be happy to assist you further. Thanks!

How is the slave shim easier your flywheel is off install the shim behind the flywheel when you are putting the flywheel on and done no pulling the slave off and taking it apart and puting a shim in there. And I agree orilleys done the street makes it quicker !

I have made several shims to install behind throwout bearing assemblys with a holesaw,drillpress,drills and a die grinder.A jig saw would work in a pinch.A lathe works nice if you have access.Determine thickness of the shim you need find some scrap and go to town.
