Default 4th gear spit out...

just bought an 00 ss camaro m6.. only has 75xxx miles on her.. although i noticed while shifting it seems to spit out in 4th gear all the time.. not only in high rpms.. every other gear is a charm.. no grinding or anthing.. it feels as if im not throwing it in all the way .. i have to slam it in and somewhat hold it there for it to catch .. if not it spits it out and u can hear it griding.. anyone have any idea of what it could be or anything along those lines.. thanks..

Synchro's leap to mind. Sounds like it is time for a rebuild.

I would change the 3-4 shift fork to the iron version, put new syncros and shift keys in the 3-4 slider assembly. Checking and possibly replacing the pilot bearing is always a great idea while the trans is out of the car.

You sir have a broken transmission.

Go get it fixed before it gets stuck in a gear and you need to towed home.

To get by, skip the gear, doing like a 3rd to 5th throw as it would help avoiding that gear.

Start Pricing companies for repaires.

Mine did the same thing, even after I replaced the syncros I had the same problem. I am sending it to a transmission shop to see if they can figure it out

eightysevenrx7 it may not be a problem with the trans. If you rebuilt it and it is still doing the same thing it may be an alignment issue. If it is just 4th gear.

clutch pedal issue is common try bleeding the crap out of it. When you say it pops out do u mean it's in gear car rolling and when you give it the throttle it pops out ? If so that's the same problem i was having. When i pulled the trans the piolt bearing was shot.

i had the problem with third and fourth. my third was way bad to the point where where when the clutch engaged it would pop right out but my fourth if i was light on the throttle and on the clutch it would stay in. some times if i was riding around 1500 rpms or lower it would pop out but not any higher. i had it torn down for me and it turned out to be the 3/4 shift fork had snapped in half. nothing else was wrong with the tranny except some normal wear from my higher miles and some bad snap rings. id say rip into it and check out the shift forks sincros and pilot bearings.. those are probably my best bet.

not really .. when im driving both normal or gettin up on it, i push the clutch pedal down and throw it in the fourth i let the clutch out and it pops out wether i give it gas or not... i have to throw it in hard and it will stay but 7 times out of 10 it will get thrown out.. there isnt any grinding when i throw it in or once its enguaged when the clutch pedal is down .. the issue starts when i let of the clutch pedal it spits it out..

well i went outside to see if the shifter was hitting the counsel or something that was preventing it from goin all the way in .. well i found out that the shifter is missing a bolt .. theres only abolt on the bottom and there was a little bit of play in it.. so i switched the bolt to the top and now it goes in when i shift at high rpms ( when i throw it in fast).. but still spits out at low rpms..

Two words: Shift fork. The 3-4 shift fork is made of aluminum to save weight. The unfortunate side effect is that can bend under certain conditions. This will cause the trans to pop out of 3rd or 4th gear, even though it feels like its fully engaging when you select it.
