The Ford units still used a cable style clutch setup.

Quicktime offers a variety of conversion bellhousings and they are really nice.

As for the bellhousings offered by Tremec, I am aware of three of them. One for the 5.0 engine that comes on the Ford Racing version, one is the bellhousing that comes on the Ford Racing 4.6 unit and then there is the one that comes on the 03-04 Cobra T56.

If a Cobra mid-plate will work with an LS1 input/4th gear shaft so that you get the ballstud and TO bearing sleeve, and the Cobra mid-plate can be adapted to a Chevy bell that is open for the fork/cable junction, it's do-able that way.

Find out how different the mid-plate to bell pattern is on the Ford T56 vs. the LS T56.

My prediction is that you're going to run into a lot of aggravation along the way when the details don't "bolt right up."

Happy researching.

You can use the 03-04 Cobra midplate on the LS1 unit but cannot use the aftermarket T56 Ford midplate without having the counter shaft bearing hole bored down about .080 extra. I would look into the McLeod midplate instead.

If this is similar to the GM aftermarket and 1993 Fbody M28/M29 mid-plates, I've been able to hone 0.050" off the backside of the bearing race and install the late-model gearsets into those unit cases.. Still plenty of meat left in the race and the countershaft shims then run in the 0.010-0.020" range instead of the 0.030-0.050" range.
